5 Signs that You Are Too Tired to Drive

Sunshine Red
The signs should be obvious but being tired you may not recognize the signs of when you are too tired to continue driving and should pull over to rest. When you are driving long distances you have a certain destination in mind where you will stop, some times it is too far to go when you are tired. You don't even have to be on a long drive, if you work third shift or late night shifts coming home from work in the morning may be dangerous for you if you are too tired to drive. Here are some of the signs that you should be aware of. If you have any of these signs, you are probably too tired to drive and should pull over to rest before continuing. Dozing off while driving can be fatal not only to you but your passengers and innocent people that are driving on the road at the same time.

1. You can't remember the last few miles, you can't remember if the traffic light was red or green. You are on familiar roads but can't remember seeing the usual things.

2. You are yawning. If you continually yawn you probably should stop and rest. This is a major sign that you are too tired.

3. You feel your eyes starting to close and they are hard to keep open. Or they are starting to water, and if it takes a long time to get them to focus on things.
This along with your head starting to drop down is a sign that you need to pull over. If you have problems holding your head up while driving and feeling alert this is also a sign.

4. If you find your vehicle wondering off the side of the road more than just a few times. If you are hitting the strips on the side of the road and you jolt awake because of the noise they make, it's time to stop.

5. If you are rubbing your eyes trying to stay awake.

While most of us have experienced these signs we usually don't pull over. But drowsy drivers do cause accidents, and do get killed. Sometimes you don't even have to take a nap to feel better and become awake again, just getting out of the car, getting something to drink will help you wake up. But if that doesn't work, try pulling over to take a short nap or let someone else drive.
