Simple Common Sense Home Remedy for Dry Eyes # 1
Turn off, or look away from for awhile, whatever it is that may be causing your dry eyes, e.g., t.v., computer. Straining your eyes for too long can certainly lead to a case of dry eyes. Your eyes aren't meant to defend against the electronically-charged particles emitted from televisions and computers. If it doesn't rectify your dry eyes, have you taken a long enough break from the t.v. or the computer? Your eyes need rest.

Are you someone who spends a lot of time on the computer or reading books. Most print on the Inet and in books is pica typed 12. Put your index finger and thumb up to whatever print you've been reading a lot. Do you see how small it is between your two fingers. Now, think about what you look at all day long, in comparison. Hardly anything you view during the day is as small as print in a book or on the computer screen. Stop looking at such small print for awhile. So, too, while you can't change the size of the print in a print publication, unless you magnify it, you can change the zoom level on your computer screen. Change it, and see if that makes a difference with your dry eyes.

Get out of the wind. Almost without fail, if your eyes spend an extended amount of time battling the wind, they're going to get dry. Think about it: when you're drying something, what do you use? Wind or air, or whatever word you want to use to describe that invisible thing that dries whatever it is you're drying off. Either get out of the wind, or put on some wrap-around glasses. See if that cures your dry eyes.

Get out of the sun. Just like wind, the sun dries out things, including your eyes. In fact, not only is the sun's rays making your eyes produce more lubricant than if they weren't shining directly on your eyes, but the sun is drying out your body, as well. Therefore, if you're body is continuously striving to keep itself at an optimum hydration level, it's also working internally to keep your eyes lubricated. And that's without the added taxation your eyes are going through from direct sunlight, if you don't have on a pair of sunglasses.
Simple Common Sense Home Remedy for Dry Eyes # 5
Use a warm washcloth on your closed eyes. Artificial tears you buy at a store only replace the water component of your dried eyes. However, your tears are made up of much more, including oil. And that's where the real, and longer lasting lubrication comes into play. If you've ever awakened in the morning to dry, crusty eyes, whether as an adult of child, what did you or your mother wipe and place on your eyes to get them cleared up? A washcloth. Placing a warm washcloth on your dry eyes not only helps because of the moisture absorbed from the washcloth, but it works to get the oil to your eyes going again.
