5 Simple Ponytail Looks for All Hair Lengths

Gwendolyn Taylor
The High Ponytail Look
This classic look works best with those who have shoulder-hair length hair or longer. The longer the hair length the higher the ponytail should be. I have a rounder face so I like to make the hair around my head not appear to flat or else it will accentuate the roundness feature of my face. After I have tied my ponytail, I will either spruce up the look with a fancy headband or slightly tug on the pulled back portion of my hair to create more volume around my head.

The Side Ponytail Look
This look works best with those with shoulder-length hair. Shorter hair lengths might not be able to achieve this look since you will be tying all of your hair too one side of your head. For a cutesier look tie a higher side ponytail at about ear level. For a more sophisticated look, tie a side ponytail at chin level. You can use no show (non-metal clasped) elastics or tie ribbons to add some flair to the look.

The Two-Sided Ponytail Look
This looks great with all hair lengths. If you have shorter hair this look will make your look cutesier than those with longer hair. This look can be simply achieved by parting both hair sides of the head and tying them on each side respectively. For shorter hair lengths, go for a higher look. For longer hair lengths tie the ponytails below each ear.

The Curled Ponytail Look
This adds a glamorous touch to any look. Simply curl your hair and tie it into a low or high ponytail. I would recommend tying in a high ponytail to emphasize the waves and curls. Also, I noticed that my hair is less stubborn to work with if I curl it the night before and wake up and simply tie it in a ponytail. I would suggest using a 1 or 1 ΒΌ inch barrel curling iron to achieve this look. Anything smaller will make your curls look bunched up and super pouf.

The Inverted Knot Ponytail Look
Out of all the ponytail looks this is my favorite. This sophisticated hair style is best achieved with those with shoulder-length hair or longer. Simply tie your hair into a low ponytail with the hair elastic tied at the level of the nape of your neck. Grasp the portion of your hair right above the elastic, separating the area into halves. With one hand hold on to the partition and grab the ponytail and pull over and through the partition and under. This should create an inverted knot look. This look can immediately make a casual look appear neater and put together.
