1. Don't Panic. Anyone can suddenly wake up to find themselves in an emergency. Losing your cool will only worsen things. Only a calm and focused mind will help you wriggle out of a financial emergency.
2. Make an assessment. Only a realistic assessment will actually tell you how deep in trouble you are (it may not be as bad as you expected) and how much is needed to bail you out of the situation.
3. Get those numbers right. Create a personal "balance sheet" -- a list of what you own next to a list of what you owe. Look at some of your assets and explore the possibility of freeing up some cash from any of your savings to cover the crunch. Delaying some of your bill payments (those that can be delayed) for a short while could actually add up to that extra cash that you are in need of.
4. Help might just be a call away. Anyone can suddenly find themselves in a sudden cash crunch at some point in their lives. You can get help by discussing with your family members and close friends about the situation. One of them could have been in a similar situation in the past and could help you to dig yourself out of it. It may also turn out that one of them could actually have that extra cash you need and could loan it to you, or better still, could strike a deal with you to help them out with a task and in turn to pay for your services.
5. Make extra money. It's time to wear your thinking hat and look at innovative ways to make money. A simple garage sale could actually be a big hit and you could end up sitting with some extra cash at the end of deal! Online buying and selling sites like craigslist and eBay can help you find customers for your products, and PayPal facilitates secure payment services for a low cost per transaction. Need more ideas? Emergencies can be handled and overcome if you stay relaxed and apply some thought on how to raise that extra cash to get yourself of the sudden crunch. Good Luck!
