5 Simple Tips to Jump Start Your Weight Loss

Cheryl Williams
Losing weight does not have to be complicated. For some reason, we believe that we must make losing weight difficult in order to be successful. This, however, could not be further from the truth. When we make losing weight difficult, we are only setting ourselves up for failure.

Here are 5 simple ways to jump start your weight loss. Not only will these 5 tips help you lose weight, they will help you keep the weight off. These tips will help you incorporate some changes into your eating habits that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Stop eating past 8 p.m. This is a tip that will be more difficult for some people than others. If you are a nighttime eater, this may be very difficult...but it will have a huge effect on your weight loss. Not only will you lose weight wile you are sleeping, you will wake up hungry...which will ensure that you eat a good breakfast, which is also essential to weight loss. Eating breakfast raises your metabolism so that you burn calories at a faster rate throughout the day.

Eat only at the dinner table with a plate and fork. This will take care of a lot of problem eating habits. It will eliminate eating in the car, eating on the sofa watching TV, stand up grazing while cooking dinner, and eating lots of junk food. (Who wants to sit at the dinner table eating potato chips and cookies from a plate?)

Keep trigger foods out of the house. Everyone has some food that can easily trigger a binge. For some people, it may be ice cream. For others, it may be cookies. For some, it may be frozen pizza. Whatever your trigger food might be, keep it out of the house. That way it will not be easily accessible. Tell yourself that you can still have the food if you really want it. It will just mean that you will have to go to a bit of trouble to get it. Instead of simply opening the fridge or cabinet, you will have to get in your car and drive to the nearest store to purchase the food. Chances are you will not want it badly enough to go to the trouble to do that.

Replace all sodas with water. Drinking soda is a habit, and a bad one at that. Even diet sodas are not good for you. They tend to feed your sugar addiction because they are artificially sweetened. This can trigger your desire for more sugar. Start replacing your soda with water. If you must, do it gradually over a period of time. You will slowly find that your desire for soda will disappear altogether. Water is not only good for you, it will help you feel full...and keep you from mindless eating.

I used to be addicted to Diet Coke. Although it had no calories, I did find that it triggered my desire for other foods that were not so healthy. I slowly began to drink more water and drink less Coke. Today, I have absolutely no desire for soda of any kind.

Snack. That's right. Don't be afraid to snack. For some reason, we associate dieting with deprivation and it should not be that way. Healthy eating is not about deprivation. Healthy eating is about eating better. Eating healthy snacks will keep your metabolism high so that you burn calories faster. It till also keep you from getting so hungry that you tend to binge.

If you will begin your weight loss journey with these 5 tips, you will begin to see the pounds slowly melt away. You will also see how important lifestyle change can be in the permanent weight loss that you are looking for.
