5 Simple Tricks to Prevent a Hangover

If you've ever woken up to a hangover in the morning, you know the dreadful feeling. The splitting headache reminds you of a sledgehammer pounding away in an almost perfect rhythm. Alongside, the churning of your entrails just wouldn't cease and your mouth has a strange bitter taste. In short, all you are reduced to is a disoriented mind in an out of control body. You can expect this and much worse if you had too much to drink at the party last night, or if you had been mixing your spirits, or simply because you imbibed when you usually don't drink. A great booze party hides a risk of a hangover-prone morning.

But the good news is, you can prevent hangover. So if you are going to a party and foresee a next day hangover, then these simple preventive measures can help you out from having one:

1. Go slow on your liquor. Remember, alcohol takes a little while to take effect. Space your drinks by indulging in other activities. Focus more on friends, food and music. Keeping a check on the time will help you pace your drinks. Keep track of how much you've had against how much you can handle. If you drink slowly, you can drink longer, without actually drinking too much.

2. Never drink on an empty stomach. If you do, the body will absorb the alcohol almost immediately and you will get drunk very quickly. Snacking just before drinking is a good idea or better still, eat a little before you arrive. At the party, just pick a bite every time the plate of snack passes by. Eating while drinking will prevent your digestive system to preferentially absorb the alcohol in the stomach. That way, the alcohol level in your blood stream will rise gently, preventing any damage to your body.

3. Never mix your spirits. Different liquors have varying alcohol content and different sources of produce. Our body does not take kindly to a mix of different types of alcoholic beverages. Try not mixing beer with whiskey or cocktails. Preferably, choose the drink with a lower alcoholic content. Stay with the type you started with in the first place. There is always another day to try the other kind.

4. Be wary of the bootleg. Avoid a drink if you can't tell its quality and strength. No two lots of bootleg will be the same, so you'll always be left guessing. At best, it could be some fun but at worst, don't rule out a black out. If the group you are in is new to you, it is all the more reason to keep away from such drinking.

5. Only you best know your limit. Just don't go beyond your capacity to imbibe. It makes sense to stop before you cross that threshold. Competing with others can be foolhardy because different people have different capacities to hold their liquor. Say no to that one-for-the-road drink.

The body takes time to break down alcohol. So allow yourself a decent sleep of about eight hours after the celebration. Drink moderately, eat carefully, get home in time to rest and of course, never drink and drive.

If you take some simple precautions, you won't need to feel sick when you wake up, nor would you ruin a perfectly good day by working at half your usual efficiency.
