5 Simple Ways to Keep a Resolution and Accomplish Personal Goals

DiamondJewelSpiritHeaven
Making resolutions and setting goals are a tradition for many people. For many people; it is also traditional to break these resolutions. Most people don't want to give up on their goals. It's just that the temptations to go back into their old and comfortable ways become too great to resist. But many people become greatly disappointed in themselves when they fail to achieve the goals they've set for themselves. This can lead to depression and negative a self image for some people. Let's say that you've made a resolution to lose weight; and for 5 years you have failed to make much progress in the weight loss department. This can be a miserable experience for you.

There are some sure fire ways to keep you committed to the promise you made for yourself. The first thing you must do, is the most important thing to do when it comes to keeping your resolution. You must decide to be responsible.

This is harder then it seems for many people. It seems simple enough; but it is not. If you have a problem with procrastination; or denying yourself pleasure in the pursuit of money or beauty or some other desirable goal; then this is something that you have to decide to do. Just like you must decide to wake up and go to work in the morning. You must clean your house. Just like you make yourself do things on a regular basis that you don't necessarily want to do with your whole heart all the time. You do them in order to get the reward. Decide this is the year that you're going to take control of your life and don't let anyone get in the way.

The next thing you should do is list your motivators. Let's say weight loss is your goal. Your motivators could be to look good in a swimsuit or for your lover. There are tons of health benefits you can list. Confidence and a sense of accomplishment are other things people that have lost weight experience. List your main motivators and keep the list somewhere special.

Now under that list, make a list of people outside of yourself that your accomplishing your goal will affect positively. This is a positive tool. People--whether we like or not-- are often very driven by others' impressions; especially the people they care about. Like if losing weight would set a good example for your children or if making your sister a diet buddy can bring you two closer; these are definite motivators. Any number of things can be true for the people in your life. List your special people and what keeping your resolution might mean for them.

Next you should try to have an accountability partner to keep you honest and keep you on track. They should be allowed to remind you and tell you straight that you need to stay on track. And, you must vow to honor and respect that person's words and directions to you no matter what.

Lastly, think about what your life will be like in 6 months if you keep your resolution. Think about your life a year from now. Get a good mental picture. What will the weather be like; what city will you be in; what kind of events will be going on. Keep this image strongly in your mind and know that you can achieve it.
