The software is easy to use, even for a novice, and it is free to try out the online version. There are a large number of tutorials available and you can start out with only the modules you need. If you are starting out, you may not need the inventory and payroll portions of the software. QuickBooks is set up so that you can add them in later without having undue stress of trying to reenter several years' worth of accounting records.
2. Office Suite Software for a Small Business:
Almost every small business will need to write a letter, at least occasionally. If you feel you cannot afford Microsoft Word which starts at $199, be sure the word processing software you do choose has the option to both read and save in MS Word format as it is the software of choice that most of the United States uses. There are numerous options available and Wordperfect by Corel is a popular choice and has a free trial. There are numerous office suites available and the prices are attractive. Just be sure to check for compatibility of MS Word or you will be unable to send letters or read them on your computer.
3. Internet Software for a Small Business:
Accessing the internet is imperative today to stay connected with vendors, suppliers and customers. Internet Explorer is common on most newly purchased computers. Other options include a subscription to AOL or other service. Monzilla also provides a good internet browser and comes with the Corel Office Suite.
4. Antivirus Software for a Small Business:
If you have the internet, you will also need a good antivirus to protect your computer and personal files. Norton and McAfee both have excellent abilities. Norton starts at $19.95 and increases if you need more than just regular protection.
5. Publishing Software for a Small Business:
Publishing software is great for doing fliers, newsletters, and even developing web pages. You can also format your business cards and stationary to send to the printers. Some of the office suites, including Microsoft Office and Corel Office Suite have publishing software available as part of the suite or a low cost upgrade. Be sure to select the one that will work with your current office suite.
Each business type will have its own list of software that is industry specific. When selecting your software, keep in mind your long term goals and possible needs so that you low cost startup will not screw up future documents and records by being incompatible.
