Snacks That Are Filling and Healthy #1: Popcorn
What's not to love about popcorn? This wonderful snack can be prepared in just a couple of minutes and goes great with a movie. Popcorn is not only healthy, but it's filling as well. The reason popcorn is so filling is the amount of fiber that it contains. But, fiber is the only reason popcorn is healthy. Popcorn also contains protein and B vitamins making it a very healthy snack. Plus, popcorn is also low calories snack.
Snacks That Are Filling and Healthy #2: Oatmeal
Now you may be thinking, "Oatmeal for a snack?" Yes, oatmeal for a snack. Oatmeal is loaded with fiber making it a very healthy and filling snack. There's only one problem with oatmeal, it's pretty bland. Fortunately, you can improve the taste of your oatmeal without adding too many calories. When I have oatmeal, I add Splenda, a low calorie butter substitute, cinnamon, and raisins. You would not believe how tasty this healthy snack can be. It's almost like having a rich dessert, only this dessert is very healthy and filling.
Snacks That Are Filling and Healthy #3: Soup
Soup is mostly made out of water (at least healthy soups are anyway) that's why they are so filling. Most of the time, when you think you're hungry, you're really just thirsty. Drinking water or eating a healthy snack like soup will quickly fill you up. I suggest sticking with homemade soups so that you can control the ingredients. All too often, store bought soups contain way too much sodium. Plus homemade soups are very economical.
Snacks That Are Filling and Healthy #4: Fruit Salad
A fruit salad is a healthy snack for many different reasons. First of all, fruit contains several vitamins and minerals. Second, fruits are very low in calories and are practically fat free. A fruit salad is a good option because it offers variety. While eating one piece of fruit may be satisfying, eating several different kinds of fruit is more pleasing to the palate. Choosing fruits that are in season will ensure that you don't have to add sugar to the fruit.
Snacks That Are Filling and Healthy #5: Raw Vegetables
While cooked vegetables are healthy, raw vegetables contains many more vitamins and nutrients. Raw vegetables also seem to be more filling because they still contain most of their water content. To ensure that the vegetables you are eating are even more filling, choose vegetables that are high in fiber. If you don't like eating raw vegetables plain, dip them into a fat-free ranch dressing or salsa.
