5 Songs American Idol Contestant Casey Abrams Should Sing

Chris Houston
American Idol contestant Casey Abrams has been the most consistent performer this season. Abrams might not fit into a particular genre-and he might not earn the fans votes, but he certainly already has the respect of his peers. You can see the way his fellow performers watch and applaud that they are incredibly impressed with Abrams. That says a lot about how talented the guy has been and will continue to be. In fact, I think it's safe to say America is better informed on who Casey Abrams is these days. He's the guy who is going to give it up completely every single time he performs.

With that in mind, here are five songs I think Casey Abrams should perform on the 2011 edition of American Idol on his way to a Top 2 or 3 finish.

1) What A Wonderful World/Louis Armstrong
I get goose bumps just thinking how good it would be if Casey Abrams broke out this song for American Idol.
While it might impress voters and fans, it still might not be enough to help Abrams get past the other "pop" artists on the show who will inevitably draw more votes. Still, I think this could be a defining moment in his career if he pulled off the Louis Armstrong classic without a hitch-and he probably would. Abrams has the gravelly voice and I think he would do the song justice and then some. Let's just say there probably wouldn't be a dry eye in the facility if he chooses to do "What A Wonderful World."

2) All Along The WatchTower/Jimi Hendrix
I want to see Casey Abrams pull this out of his hat so badly. Everyone talks about how Abrams can play every single instrument. How about shadowing Jimi Hendrix in one of the great rock songs of all time? Abrams could slam this song without a doubt and earn many many points in the competition from fans and judges.

3) Just a Gigolo/David Lee Roth
Playing on the whole "sexy" image and references he's made to the judges, how about playing a fun David Lee Roth tune called "Just a Gigolo?" It's fun, sassy and enough energy that Casey Abrams could move the crowd and get a few laughs. Is it a hard song? It probably wouldn't be one of those songs where he scored major points-but he'd continue to show his lighter side and earn a few more popular votes.

4) Turn The Page/Bob Seger
I think this Bob Seger hit has Casey Abrams all over it. Abrams could blast the low lyrics early on leading up to a fantastic finish. "Turn The Page" might not be well known by younger fans but the song still has a completely "cool" feel to it. Abrams could emerge with a few new fans if he performed this song well in front of the millions who watch American Idol. Maybe he can even mix it up a bit with a version Metallica recorded years later to make it a bit more contemporary.

5) Calling All Angels or Drops of Jupiter/Train
This might be a bit of a stretch for the voice and pitch of Abrams but I think he could absolutely swing either. He might have to take it down just a notch but I think this could show just how Abrams might fit in the contemporary music world. "Calling All Angels" is one of those songs the audience would be familiar with so there may be the dangers of leaving something on the table here. "Drops of Jupiter" is also a fan favorite and could do wonders to show how Abrams fits in the current music scene. I believe Abrams is completely capable of smashing these songs and gaining a much needed approval from the fans and judges.

Those are five songs I'd love to see Casey Abrams sing on the 2011 edition of American Idol. Maybe he'll get the opportunity to perform some of these songs and maybe not. Only time will tell what the individual performers songs will consist of but I believe there are some nice possibilities within each of these songs for Abrams.

I think he would do an amazing Let's Get it On by Marvin Gaye.

With all due respect, although he won't win, he'll certainly be the Adam Lambert of this season, and each and every performance will give us goosebumps.

I was just thinking about that song David Lee Roth had as a hit during the '80s, but could not think of the title. "I'm A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" would be perfect for Casey. Hopefully he will perform it this season.
