Having healthy, great looking hair during summer requires special summer hair care. Summer brings hot weather, outdoor activities and swimming, all of which can severely damage unprotected hair. A sign of severely damaged and/or sunburned hair is extremely frizzy, dry hair. If hair is too damaged, the only cure is to a hair cut to remove the damaged hair. These five summer hair care survival tips will keep your hair heathy and beautiful this summer.

Summer Hair Care Tip 1: Hair grows faster in the summer and should be trimmed at least once every 6-8 weeks during the summer. This will help prevent splint ends, drying and breakage.

Summer Hair Care Tip 2: Avoid heat to the hair, which causes dry hair and split ends with all types of hair. Avoid taking hot showers or washing hair with hot water. Use cool or warm water. For summer hair care, avoid blow dryers or curling irons as much as possible. Let hair dry naturally. For a curly look without using a curling iron, braid wet hair, and unbraid it when dry. If you must use a hair dryer and/or curling iron, apply a leave in conditioner on hair prior to their use.

Summer Hair Care Tip 3: Use gentler shampoos and conditioners during summer. Read labels and avoid products containing alcohol or formaldehyde, which dry out hair.

Summer Hair Care Tip 4: Protect your hair from extreme sun exposure, just you protect your skin. This can be accomplished by wearing a hat, scarf or other covering over your hair. Covering your hair may become hot or uncomfortable. You can also apply a leave in hair conditioner with sun screen before going out if you prefer not to wear something on your head. An amazing summer hair care tip: Apply regular sun screen used for skin to your hair if your have forgotten to apply the hair conditioner before going out. The regular sun screen should be rinsed out of hair with shampoo the same day.

Summer Hair Care Tip 5: Summer fun in the pool, pond, lake or ocean can all cause hair damage from chlorine or salt water, which dry hair out. Rinse hair before getting in the water. By getting in the water with a wet head, your hair will absorb less chlorine or salt water than it does when getting in the water with dry hair. Always shampoo your hair after getting out of the water to help get rid of any remaining chlorine or salt water.

By following summer hair care tips, your hair can remain healthy and beautiful through the heat of summer.
