- What the PD's phone numbers are
These are very handy and sometimes you will be put in a situation where you will have no other choice but to call the police department on campus so don't hesitate to look for these numbers and always have them inside of your purse or wallet. If you find yourself in a situation where you can't get home, someone's following you, if your car has been stolen, or if you think someone is in danger you should call the police department right away.
- About health services
Health services on campus are usually only open from certain hours to certain hours. Make sure to find out what these hours are and what they offer for students. You should go to the clinic at least once a semester to pick up some free over the counter medicines that they usually provide for students as well as protection if you plan on being sexually active. This will help keep your body safe.
- You should always carry identification
If you have a student ID make sure to carry it everywhere with you along with as many identifiable things you have such as your driver's license, your state ID and the like of those. In a small piece of paper you should also write down some emergency phone numbers and names just in case anything happens to you the people helping you will be able to call your relatives.
- Stay in an area where you're not alone
A safety precaution that's very important for you to take these days is to always be with someone and be in a place where there's plenty of light. Don't go walking around campus too late at night by yourself, don't go through parking lots, and especially don't walk outside of apartment complexes on your own at night. Doing those things can put you at a huge risk to be kidnapped, harassed, and even sexually abused.
- Don't let yourself be influenced into doing something wrong; learn how to say no
If you have friends who aren't on the right path or who try to get you to do things that you know are wrong or that your instincts tell you to not do you should try to find new friends. Don't let yourself be pushed into doing something because you can't say no; that's something that you have to learn and learn it fast! Don't ever do something that you don't want to do because it will just put your safety at risk and that's not something that you want to do while you're away at college by yourself.
