If you are thinking about starting a scrapbook for your precious photographs looking at all the papers, stickers, and supplies out there may seem daunting. Here are five tips that can help you stop being overwhelmed and start enjoying this creative hobby.

1. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There are lots of products out there designed with beginners in mind. From pre-made layouts, coordinating papers, and templates it is easy to find something that will help you get started. Sometimes the fasted way to learn is to see how other put together their pages, and with these beginner supplies you can create beautiful pages quickly and get an eye for what make a scrapbook page unique.

2. Check out the various sites online dedicated to scrap booking. Many of the popular magazines such as Creating Keepsakes, Simple Scrapbooks, and Memory Makers have websites that showcase a wide assortment of styles and techniques. You can find tips, ideas, and chat with other scrap bookers on the online message boards.

3. Make a plan. It can be overwhelming to sit down with your pictures, papers, and more and try to sort though the piles. Instead pick out a few pictures that you want to work with and make a plan around them. Scribble a design on paper or on your computer, work out a basic layout then move on to adding what colors you want and what extra touches you want to add. Having a plan down to look back on makes it less confusing when you are sitting down with all of your things.

4. Getting your scrapbook supplies organized can also keep you from feeling snowed under. There are many different styles of bags, cases, and storage units that you can choose from in every price range. Finding something that you can use to keep everything neat can cut your time in half when trying to put together a scrapbook page.

5. Have fun! After all, having fun is one of the attractions of scrap booking. Do not hold back your creativity, let what ever wild and silly ideas that come to mind have free range on your paper. If you want to glue on large, silk flowers or pair yellow polka dot paper with green plaid go for it! Scrapbooking is a fun and exciting hobby, the only limit is your own creativity.
