5 Tips for Boosting Artfire Sales

Kara Kelso
If you are a member of the Artfire community, selling your own handmade goods, your sales may not be what you expected. These tips are designed to increase sales, and show you how to take advantage of the features available to pro members.

1. Focus on SEO

The most important feature of Artfire is the ability to focus on SEO (also known as search engine optimization). Business owners with their own websites who practice good SEO skills tend to have difficulty building backlinks. Lucky for you, the most difficult part has been done. Artfire has a fantastic "weight" in the search engines, so all you need to do is work "on the page". This mostly means focusing on a good keyword phrase, and including it in your title and description. See Wordtracker for keywords.

2. Give Detailed Description

This is not only important for SEO purposes, but crucial to your visitors. Take full advantage of the space you are given for product description and inspiration behind the product, and give your customers a perfect image of what this product is all about. Too often I see short descriptions no longer than a few sentences, and they do not accurately describe the product I'm viewing. Your customers do not always have time to contact you with questions, so try not to leave anything out of your descriptions. Don't ever assume the picture will say it all!

3. Picture Perfect

Do your pictures look professional? Do you have multiple angles of the product? Is the product balanced correctly and in focus? You do not need a fancy camera to take fantastic pictures; just a basic camera and decent computer software to edit them. There are hundreds of suggestions and tutorials within the Artfire community and help pages. Ask for feedback on your pictures if you aren't sure yours are good.

4. Set up a Facebook Page

If you haven't done so already, set up a Facebook page just for your business. This can be a fan page off your personal Facebook account, or one completely separate. Also be sure to check into setting up the Artfire Kiosk, so visitors can browse through your store right on Facebook. It may take time to build up your fan page, but make sure you are posting regular updates. This can be a wonderful alternative to an email newsletter.

5. Get Involved

Being involved in the community may not be directly increasing your sales, but it allows you to make friends and obtain additional suggestions not listed here. Members of the Artfire community often create collections from products they see within the forums, which can be displayed on the front page. You also may see links to outside sources to advertise for free, or other special promotion offers. If you aren't involved, you may miss them!

There are many other ways to increase your sales on Artfire, but the ones listed below are the basics you should have down before seeking out additional promotion. Best of luck!
