5 Tips to Brighten Up Your Bathroom

BS
Bathrooms can be very important rooms in a house, especially when it comes time to put your house on the market. Bathrooms are typically some of the smallest rooms in a house, so they can very easily be rooms that lack lighting. Dark is never good for a room, except maybe a media room. It can be tough to bring light into a bathroom, especially one in a very small space, but there are things you can do that can make the smallest, darkest bathroom seem brighter and bigger. Here are some tips to brighten up your bathroom:

How to brighten up your bathroom- new paint job
If you have a dark bathroom, the first thing you should do is paint it. Dark colors are never good for a bathroom, especially one with no windows. Dark colors make a room look smaller, so avoid them. Pick a bright color, but not one that won't make you take a step back every time you step into the bathroom. If you already have a light color that you are satisfied with in your bathroom but the paint job is a few years old, paint your bathroom the same color, and it will still look cleaner and brighter.

How to brighten up your bathroom- replace waterproof seals
Over the years, your bathroom loses it's shiny new look as does just about everything else. The waterproof seals around your bath and sink probably isn't a nice shade of bright white anymore. Replace these, or use bleach to bring them back to its original color. If you have tiles on your bathroom floor, the cement between them is most likely darkened and there are many cleaners specifically designed to get rid of hard stains.

How to brighten up your bathroom- new light fixtures
This is one of the most obvious things you can do to bring light into your bathroom. When you are in the process of replacing your light fixtures for the bathroom there are many things to consider. First, make sure that the size of the light fixture is appropriate for the size of your bathroom, you don't want the fixture to overpower the room itself. Also be sure that the color and style of the light fixture matches with the decor of your bathroom. The most important thing about your light fixture is that is provides a good amount of lighting, but not so much that it hurts your eyes when you turn the light on.

How to brighten up your bathroom- new towels
Towels are almost always on display in a bathroom and if those towels are old, frayed, and dirty, they bring down the look of your bathroom. A good idea is to get a set of decorative towels that are not going to be used for anything other than simply that, decoration. That way they won't get frayed or worn down and they will always look great in your bathroom.

How to brighten up your bathroom- new hardware
After years of using the faucets and cabinet handles, they start to show their age. Often times, a good cleaning of these things can bring them back to their original appearance, but sometimes a good scrub is just not enough. If you find that your cabinet handles, faucets, or other bathroom hardware cannot be cleaned enough to make them look almost new, it might be time for a replacement. When the hardware looks new, it makes your bathroom look clean and bright.
