5 Tips for Decorating in FarmVille

FarmVille Decorating Ideas

Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez
Many FarmVille players enjoy decorating their farms in the massively popular Zynga Facebook game. However, other Farmville players find decorating their farms a challenge and aren't sure how to give their farms the warm touches and bright splashes of color that can give a sense of home to their virtual farmlands.

While everybody has their own tastes and styles, I'd like to share some of my personal tips for decorating a FarmVille farm. You may find these tips useful, you'll likely add your own spin to some of my decorating ideas, or perhaps you'll be inspired to use some of your own truly off-the-wall decorating techniques that'll make your farm the most innovative among your entire network of FarmVille friends!

Use Fencing For Organizing Your Farm

While you may prefer an open look on your farm, you'll also find fencing to be very useful in visually organizing your farm. Placing fences around crops, for example, can be especially useful if you like planting various types of crops.

Planting your potatoes in one fenced-in crop area and your peas in another fenced crop is also good for drawing friends to fertilize certain crops as opposed to just randomly fertilizing sporadic plots of land.

Plant Trees Near Buildings

Do you find that some of those barns, sheds, and tool shops look a little too harsh for your farm? Why not soften those 90-degree angles with trees. Planting trees at the corners of buildings is especially useful for creating some real curb appeal for your buildings and minimizing how much foliage you have to use to hide the sharp lines.

Lightposts Bring A Sense of Night Life to Your Farm

It's never nighttime in FarmVille (yet, at least!), but you can bring a sense of night life to your farm with light posts. Place light posts near buildings in your farm, the band stand (if you have one), picnic tables, benches, and any place else you'd love to hang out at night on FarmVille!

Where Should That Garage Go?

Instead of just randomly placing buildings wherever there's available land, why not rearrange any crops or other pre-existing elements so that your barn goes in just the right spot? After all, barns, windmills, silos, and other large structures are central elements in real farms. Decorating your farm with buildings is a basic aspect of laying out your farm's overall look.

Place barns near imagined pathways. Put a windmill where there's some open space on your farm -- a real windmill wouldn't function efficiently if it was immediately surrounded by trees because the trees would block the flow of wind. Homes can go wherever you would like to feel safe and warm on your farm, but in real life you wouldn't want to block it in with crops -- unless you like the idea of having to crawl through corn rows or pumpkin patches to get from your front door to the local road!

Add A Touch of Reality

Want to really make your farm look convincing? Don't forget to add authentic touches that you'd find on any farm. FarmVille offers telephone poles, mail boxes, lawn mowers, sand boxes, ponds, and bundles of logs. Each of these items, if placed in areas of your farm where they would really be used, can make your farm look less like a digital dream on a computer screen and more like a snapshot of a real, functioning farm you can be proud of!

I played Farmville for quite awhile but got tired of putting horses into barns and plowing the fields before they shriveled up. lol. Now I'm just a Castle Age and Mafia Wars gal.

Definitely the wind mill. Can't have a farm without a wind mill!
