5 Tips for a Great Honeymoon Even on a Tight Budget

Clyde Dennis
The honeymoon is a very important part of a couple's wedding.

The purpose for going on a honeymoon after the wedding is so that the new couple has time to relax and enjoy time alone with each other, away from the usual distractions of friends and family.

There is no question couples want to experience carefree honeymoons; however, getting to it sometimes brings it's own stresses. Stresses of the financial kind.

Too often what happens is a couple spends too much on the actual wedding and leave themselves little or no room in their budget for the honeymoon.

This does not have to be the case as there are ways to have a great honeymoon even on a tight budget.

Here are 5 ways that immediately come to mind:

1. Take advantage of 'Home Stay' programs

Look into and take advantage of what are commonly known as 'Home Stay' programs that are offered in many areas. These programs are promoted by local municipalities to encourage tourism and are generally a lot less costly than staying in a hotel. Over the course of a honeymoon that covers a week or two this alone could save you $1000.00 or more.

2. Time Your Honeymoon So You're Taking it During the Travel Off Season

Another simple way to save a bundle of cash on your honeymoon is to plan your wedding and honeymoon so you're taking it during what is called the off peak season. Most areas have them. If you're able to do so, and if you plan your wedding and honeymoon far enough in advance there simply is no reason you shouldn't be able to, you can save as much as 50% on travel packages. What ever you you want to be sure not to plan on travelling during peak season during your honeymoon, if for no other reason than staying out of large crowds of travelers.

3. Plan Your Honeymoon In Advance

Remember that planning for travel is one of the simplest and most effective ways to get huge discounts. With any type of travel planning and paying for the trip as far in advance as is practical is without question one of the easiest ways to receive the best rates. For something like a honeymoon it's not uncommon for the trip to be planned as far as a year in advance. Just doing this will almost certainly make it possible to receive anywhere from 25 to 50 percent off the price of your travel package.

4. Use a Wedding Registry

With the growth in popularity of wedding registry services couples are able to avoid the fate of receiving gifts they don't really need or worse can't use. Through wedding registries the couple being married has the opportunity to let guests know directly what they want or are in need of. Keep in mind this could very well include items they need to complete their honeymoon plans.

5. Go Camping!

If both the bride and groom are the outdoors type they could consider making their honeymoon a camping trip. What better way to enjoy their time with each other than enjoying nature. There are many places that are quite romantic camping spots with their star lit nights and quite and peaceful surroundings. Just like the home stay programs, using this hotel alternative could save a honeymooning couple hundreds if not thousands of dollars depending on the length of the trip.

Using these 5 tactics will make it possible to plan and enjoy a fun and relaxing honeymoon on even the tightest budget.
