There are even more things that you should do to keep your computer organized if you are about to start college. In this article you will learn what and how to keep yourself organized. Try doing these things on a regular basis, and you will surely not have any stress because of un-organization.

- Don't create so many shortcuts
Creating desktop shortcuts can be an awesome thing to do. It's great to be able to launch all of your favorite programs right from the desktop when you first start your computer; however this makes for a very disorganized desktop. Instead of creating so many shortcuts, just make sure that you have those programs available through Start then All Programs. If you do have them there, then you should delete the desktop shortcuts or arrange them all in one single desktop folder.

- Don't save junk
If you surf the internet a lot you, you probably save a lot of junk. Make sure to delete junk that you may have on your computer by going through your pictures, your text files, your temp files and things like that. The less junk you keep the more organized your computer will be.

- Don't clutter your desktop
If you want to be an organized computer user, the best thing you can do is to not clutter your desktop. If at one point you feel that everything is unorganized and you want to do a fast desktop cleanup, right click anywhere and hit Properties. Once you're there, go to the Desktop tab at the top and hit Customize Desktop. Once you've done that you can hit Clean Desktop now and all of your unused files will be moved to one single folder for you. Here you can also automate this to happen every 60 days if you'd like.

- Organize your MyDocuments
Organizing the MyDocuments folder is very important. Make sure that you only have folders there and not lose files. Create a folder for everything you need there and organize your things there. This will make things much better for you and just think how easy it will be to backup all of your important thins; everything will be located in one big folder.

- Use folders correctly
Using folders correctly isn't a hard thing to do. What you should do to get this going correctly is have 3 folders in your MyDocuments folder. Call them Personal, Work, School. Use those three from there and save everything under one of those; that way when you feel like cleaning up you can do it easily. The reason why you should not save these folders on your desktop, you should save them to your MyDocuments, is because MyDocuments can be easily opened from the Start menu and they don't need to be cluttering up your desktop.
