5 Tips to Help Prevent Colds in Your Home

Kyle S.
Every year, parents and kids all worry about coming down with the cold that's been circulating around school or work. A lot of these people don't take any multivitamins to help prevent colds. There are lots of things you can do to help prevent coming down with a cold. The most common method would be taking vitamins and remedies such as EmergenC, which can aid a lot in cold prevention. Here are five tips you can use to help prevent colds.

The first tip is to take a multivitamin each and everyday. Making sure your body gets the proper vitamins each day can help strengthen your immune and help your body fight the germs that will make you sick. Also taking a garlic pills have been said to help prevent colds as well. Taking vitamin C products like EmergenC have proven very effective in terms of cold prevention. You can find EmergenC at stores such as Walgreens, Wal-Mart and online at sites like Amazon.com

The second tip is to make sure you frequently wash your hands and always wash them thoroughly. Whenever you make contact with somebody, touch a counter top, doorknobs, toilets, everything in general, always wash your hands. When you wash your hands, you should always do it a couple of times to ensure a thorough job. Most people find that washing your hands anywhere from 3-5 times day is a good way to help prevent colds.

The third tip is to carry some sort of hand sanitizer. There will be times where you won't be near a restroom or sink to wash your hands and hand sanitizer is your next best alternative. Hand sanitizer can come in handy when trying to prevent colds when your out shopping in a busy shopping mall or when your kids go to school. Hand sanitizer can be a life saver for your children when they are in school to help prevent them from missing any class time with a cold.

The fourth tip is to make sure you are always stocked up on Kleenex around your house. It's a good idea to make sure to have some on hand when you go out in public and even at work. Whenever you sneeze or cough, you should make sure you do so into your arm. When you sneeze or cough into your hands, then those germs travel to your hands and then to whatever you touch. Say you sneeze into your hand then go wash your hands and now guess what, those germs are on your faucet and sink and whoever uses it next will receive those germs. If you don't have a tissue handy, then use your arm instead of your hand. Might sound gross but beats spreading germs all over your house or work.

The fifth and final tip for is to get a flu shot. There are some people that just more likely to contract the flu than the rest but if your just looking to avoid getting the flu, get your flu shot. I believe there is also a nasal method of getting the flu vaccination if you don't like needles. One of your best allies can be the flu shot so make sure you go ahead and just get it over with each fall to help prevent the flu.

These are just some of the methods people out there use to prevent colds around their houses and at work and there are tons of other methods people use to prevent the flu. For now though, these are the five tips I abide by each year for cold season. It's always in January or February when I get sick each year, so thats when I stock up on my EmergenC and multivitamins.
