- Don't work after 10 on school nights.
If your job requires you to work after 10pm on school nights it's time to talk to your manager about your priorities and your working hours schedule. Usually most jobs will accommodate students and their hours, but if you're not being met halfway with this then maybe it's not the job for you at this moment. Talk to your manager and try to negotiate something; do not work after 10pm on school nights because you will be tired the next morning, you will have a lot of things to do when you get home, and you will start to slack off in school because of it.
- Get a job that will look good on your resume or that is related to what you want to be doing in the future.
This is very important for people who have jobs during their high school years, if you don't have to have a job but you want to have one then look for something that will look good on college and scholarship applications and even on your resume. This is very important because when you're looking for a job after college or during college you'll have some good experience to back you up and to give you the advantage over other student applicants. Make sure to make a good impression and to ask for a letter of recommendation after you graduate and head off for college from this place.
- Get your assignments done early to avoid being late.
This is a very good tip for students with jobs! If you get a class syllabus or if you have the assignments that can be turned in or done early do it! Don't wait till the last minute to do your class assignments, homework, and especially not on major projects. Get them done early and turn them in early. You should also always have a backup of all your stuff with you just in case you forget something. When you print something important make sure that you have it saved; with all of the things going on in your life you should always have a backup for everything.
- Let your teachers know that you have a part-time job.
Usually teachers will not treat you differently just because you have a job outside of school, however you should still let them know. Perhaps then you can work with them on getting extra tutoring, extra credit work, and even getting them to agree to take your work before the actual due date.
- Don't work more than 25 hours per week.
If you have a part-time job chances are that you're getting from 20 to 30 hours in per week. Try limit yourself to only 25 hours per week to ensure that you have time for school work and even a fun activity after school or during the weekends. If you can participate in school activities do so, regardless of your job. Don't try to be a grown up so quick if you don't have to be; enjoy high school as it will seriously be all different after it.
