If you are on a mission to get your kids to eat healthier as this school year begins, then you're on the right path. Getting kids to eat healthy meals is part of doing your part as a parent. The more that you encourage them to eat healthy, the more they will do it. In this article I will mention 5 tips on how to get your kid to eat healthy as soon as you come home from your next grocery shopping trip.

- Don't take your kids grocery shopping
Every time that you take your kids groceries shopping with you I bet they ask for a candy or a snack of some sort, this is something that you want to avoid. If you don't take your kids shopping with you then you will not be tempted to get them snacks or candies or other unhealthy foods. Make a list of what you're going to go buy and stick to it.

- Prepare meals together
If you've never prepared food with your kids then it's time to do so. If your kid sees that you are putting a lot of the fatty things into their meals, chances are that they will tell you something about it. If you get your kids to help out with the cooking they will want to help you make perfect meals; they will encourage you to not use so much cooking oil or to not make their food so fatty. Try this out, you'll see it works.

- Incorporate fun foods
If you know of fun foods out there that can be healthy for your kids then go ahead and incorporate them. Sometimes parents think that they can't afford the healthy fun foods, but that's completely wrong. There are many sugar free ice pops in the frozen food section of Wal-Mart, and there are certainly more fun foods that have no fat at all.

- Make healthy desserts
Healthy deserts can be a small cup of berries, melons, or any of your kids favorite foods with a small amount of toping. If you know that your kids love cold fruit cocktails, then perhaps getting the no sugar fruit cocktails for them is the best thing you can do. Serve that up for desert a couple of days a week and you'll see them eating healthier often after that.

- Get fat free candies and limit them
Finally, if you want to get your child to eat healthier, but you don't want to take their favorite candies away as they make them feel special, then get them fat free candies and put limits on them. Suppose you usually get them a bag of Jolly Ranchers; the next time you shop for their candies get them a bag of fat free Life Savers and don't let them eat the whole bag in one sitting.
