5 Tips for Making Gifts This Holiday Season

Nothing shows how much you care for a person quite like a handmade gift. The thought and effort that is put into a gift you made is sure to put a smile on someone's face. However, sometimes making these gifts can be very time consuming. I remember one year when I made around 30 tube sock snowmen and ended up spending a few days just stuffing socks. Then of course came the packaging, which is a whole other story.

The truth of the matter is that making handmade gifts can be very overwhelming, but with some simple tricks you can ensure that everyone on your list gets something special.

Making Handmade Gifts Tip #1: Set up a work station.

If you have a craft room in your house this would be the perfect time to use it. If you don't have a craft room, take a table and place it somewhere where you will not be distracted. Depending on what you are making you may need to focus.

Making Handmade Gifts Tip #2: Don't wait until the last minute.

If anything, you should start making your gifts as early as possible. This allows you to dedicate all the time you need to create, and gives you an extra time cushion in case you need to fix things or make finishing touches.

Making Handmade Gifts Tip #3: Make a schedule and stick to it.

Unless you want to be completely overwhelmed the night before a Holiday party, I suggest you set up a schedule for your crafting. Maybe you can set a couple of hours aside every night to work on your gifts, or maybe you can dedicate an entire weekend.

Making Handmade Gifts Tip #4: Set some goals.

A good way to ensure that everything gets done is to set some goals. For instance, you can set a weekly goal of finishing 5 gifts by the end of the week. Or, you can split up the steps of your project into goals. Take the tube sock snowmen for instance, you can set a goal to have all the socks stuffed by the end of the week. When the next week rolls around, you would either finish another 5 gifts or complete the next step for all the gifts.

Making Handmade Gifts Tip #5: Do not over commit yourself.

Do not commit to making 100 (or any number for that matter) handmade gifts if you do not have the time or the supplies. You will only end up overbooking yourself and spending less time making each gift unique.
