5 Must-read Tips on How to Survive Nine Months of Maternity Clothes

As your belly starts to grow, you will feel the need (literally) to make some additions to your wardrobe. There are a few things to remember before you start shopping for maternity clothes.

1. You are the same size you are now but in Maternity size. This means when you shop or order clothes do not assume you will be bigger than you are. Your size you are now will be what you need because it will be cut for a pregnant women's body. If you wear a large now, buy a large.

2. Look at the tag. First and foremost the fabric content. What the piece of clothing is made out of may determine whether or not you will actually wear it. For instance if you buy 100% polyester and you will be 8 months pregnant in August in a very hot climate, chances are it will stay in your closet. Opt for natural fibers like cotton and avoid those that are synthetic. Also many women experience dry itchy skin during pregnancy. If this is the case softer natural fabrics that allow the skin to breath will make you feel better.

3. Consider your climate and the season you will be pregnant in, & the season you will be VERY pregnant in. Most women are slightly warmer than the rest of the population during these nine months. This may be due to hormones or just that fact that your body is working, very, VERY hard growing a human life inside. So think layers and light ones. If you purchase tank tops, purchase at least one cardigan or shawl to layer in places like work where a tank isn't appropriate. But many women can do without the big bulky wool sweaters that you would normally enjoy in December.

4. Your feet grow too. They don't so much as grow but swell. If this is the case, try to find a pair of shoes that offer ultimate comfort. You will need something without a heel and soft soles. While being pregnant it is very easy to lose your sense of gravity and take an unwanted spill. Clumsiness just comes along with the territory. SO, instead of the three-inch wedges go for something that can take you through your pregnancy in all season with all outfits. Don't spend too much because chances are you feet will return to your regular size.

5. Buy properly fitting clothes. When the pounds start adding on, it is easy to want to hide behind a top or blouse that resembles a small tent. Try not to. The better your clothes fit the better you will look. Buy bras & underwear that fit properly as well. You may even want to get a fitting to ensure you are wearing the right size undergarments. Many maternity stores offer this and can size you appropriately up until your due date.

The world is cruel and yes most women have to suffer through maternity clothes shopping. But if you follow these 5 simple tips, you will be much more comfortable and less stresses by the time that little baby arrives. A maternity wardrobe doesn't always have to be painful!
