5 Tips for a Memorable NASCAR Tailgate

Throwing a tailgate party is easy, right? But when you pull into a parking lot full of tailgaters, how do you make sure yours is not just fun, but special? Here's a few tips that I recommend to make sure your tailgates are the best at the next NASCAR event you go to.

1) Decorate. If you have the time and resources, get decals with your favorite driver's number or sponsor, and put them on your own car. If not, or if you're worried about removing the details, bring banners, flags or blankets. Even items which you can't take into the event with you can be fun and legal for the tailgate. And don't forget yourself. Let yourself go. You're tailgating. Wear a goofy hat, a NA SCAR jacket you usually wouldn't wear in public, or fake tattoos with your driver's name or number.

2) Furniture. Don't just sit on the edge of the cooler and move over every time someone needs to grab a beer or soda. Come prepared. If you're taking the time to read this article, you probably plan on spending some time outside. Make it comfortable. Pack a hammock you can creatively string, or lawn chairs, or the folding chairs you can get for $5 at Walmart or Target.

3) Get there early. Especially if you are driving with multiple vehicles, show up early, get spots next to each other, and enjoy.

4) Bring enough to share. Face it. We all should come to sporting events ready to tailgate. But some people, for whatever reason, don't. Share the love, and show them what tailgating is all about. Bring some extra plastic cups. If it's allowed where the event is being hosted, bring a keg (hey, you're going to bring several cases of beer, a half barrel is usually only about $60). It will save space in the car and in the trash bag on the way out. And when the poor tail-gateless souls walk by, you can invite them into the party.

5) Get creative. Yes, you can have a classic beer, chips, and dip tailgate. Everybody loves a classic. But we're talking about how to set yourself apart from the masses, right? Bring a dish which shows the colors of your favorite driver. Make a cocktail and name it after your favorite driver. Google your favorite driver and replicate their favorite dish, or something from their home town or region.

With these tips, hopefully you'll be able to have a tailgate which is not just fun, but memorable. And who knows, maybe you'll make some new friends in the process.
