5 Tips to Sell Your Car Faster

When you're trying to sell your car privately, it's easy to become overwhelmed. You have to prepare the car for sale, field calls, and schedule appointments for people to come see the car. There are a few tips for selling your car privately that could make your journey from posting your ad to signing the back of the title quicker and easier.

Tip 1: Improve the look of your car before you set out to sell your car. Replace the tires if worn, battery if it's old, and have the seats professionally cleaned and repaired so that the interior looks fresh and new. These relatively inexpensive fixes can go a long way if you want to sell your car fast. Get a car wash, wheel shine, wax, and detailing job for your car, as well.

Tip 2: Consider bundling your car with something else of value to a car buyer to sell your car faster. For example, offer a new GPS or CD changer with the purchase to sweeten the deal. A subscription to a satellite radio service might pique the potential buyer's interest. Offer to pay for the car buyer's vehicle history report to save him money.

Tip 3: Purchase an extra-large car magnet or printed window sign to advertise your car for sale to sell your car faster. This way you can print your telephone number in large print, the "For Sale" message, and also have room to list three top features about the car on the sign. Hang the sign in the back window or place the car magnet on the side door.

Tip 4: Drive the car around a bit instead of letting it sit for a long period of time if you want to sell your car faster. This will allow potential buyers to view the car (with its "For Sale" sign) on the road and see that it both runs fine and looks good.

Tip 5: Hold a car "open house" event to sell your car faster. Real estate agents know that holding an open house for a property generates a sense of competition between interested parties and can cause the property to sell quicker (maybe even that day. So schedule a date and time when potential buyers can all come to see the car at the same time. This will decrease your aggravation in having to schedule individual appointments. Post the information about the open-house on your online car selling profile (such as on AutoTrader or Edmunds). If you want, you can hold the car viewing event in a public place instead of at your home.
