Or GET in Shape!

There are many ways to fight the battle of the bulge. Unfortunately, for many Americans, these strategies are limited during the winter season. With snow and cold weather, going out for a jog or practicing Yoga in the back yard are not feasible options. Eating habits may not change at all, but a lack of exercise will surely change your body and add unwanted inches to your waistline. Opting in at a gym may be a wonderful idea, but this is not something that everyone can afford.

Fortunately, with a little creativity and some dedicated efforts, you can get through the winter and remain in shape with these 5 tips!

1. Work out during the commercial breaks. Watching television is something that most of us do. In the colder months, take advantage of the commercial breaks by doing some jumping jacks or jogging in place. Alternate that with push-ups or sit-ups and you have completed a workout! Doing this during a one hour show every night will give you an average of 5 hours of workout time a week!

2. Turn a gallon of milk into a barbell! While grocery shopping, use the milk (or other easily held item) to do some curls. It may look a little strange, but you will get some strength training into your day. Alternate arms and you can get 30 minutes a week if you do this during every weekly trip to the store.

3. Power walk in the mall. This is easy to do during the holidays! After the holidays are over, take advantage of the clearance racks and walk your way through the mall. The average mall in America can provide you with miles of walking in warm temperatures. Get your pedometer out and hit the mall. Try for a minimum of a mile each visit.

4. Dance! Turn up the music and get moving during your chores. Whether you are preparing dinner or cleaning the bathroom, you can add a little extra movement to burn extra calories. Turn it up and have a great time! Get the family involved and have a family dance night with everyone's favorite tunes.

5. Take the stairs. By avoiding the elevator you can burn calories and get a good cardio workout. In fact, take the stairs at home a few extra times a day to get a mini-workout at home.

With these easy and very do-able items on your checklist, you will not only stay in shape during the holidays, you may wind up a step ahead this spring!
