The months of November and December are notorious for packing on the pounds, but have no fear; it is possible to stay skinny this holiday season. Between the holiday parties, company dinners, and family get togethers the holidays are a time when many gain weight. By following a few tips you can stay skinny this holiday season without feeling deprived.

Tips for Staying Skinny this Holiday Season #1

Ask family and friends not to give food (cookies, candies, baked goods, etc.) as gifts. If these goodies are not at your house you will be much less likely to eat them.

Tips for Staying Skinny this Holiday Season #2

At buffet type parties do not sit near the food tables. This is an easy way to make sure you will not eat as much. If you have to walk across the room for that extra cookie or helping of creamed spinach, you will be much less likely to go back for it than you would be if you simply had to walk a step or two to get that extra treat.

Tips for Staying Skinny this Holiday Season #3

At cocktail parties always have a calorie free drink in your hand such as a seltzer or a diet soda. With only one free hand you will be less likely to eat as much food as you otherwise would.

Tips for Staying Skinny this Holiday Season #4

Before going to a restaurant decide what you will have and stick to it. Most restaurants have their menus online so it is easy to check out the menu ahead of time and decide what you will be having. Make a conscious decision to eat a healthy meal instead of deciding on the spur of the moment that the 20 oz. ribeye steak and twice baked potato with extra cheese and sour cream looks tasty.

Tips for Staying Skinny this Holiday Season #5

Do not deprive yourself before going to a restaurant or holiday party. Many people attempt to "save calories" by not eating until party time. This is never a good idea. If you are going to an evening party, by all means eat lighter during the day, but never forego eating altogether for the entire day. For breakfast and lunch have a light meal consisting of carbs and protein, such as yogurt and fruit, or whole grain cereal and milk, this will keep your hunger at bay without adding too many calories to your daily diet.

By following these healthy eating tips you will be able to stay skinny this holiday season. Staying skinny during the holidays takes willpower and smart decision making but it certainly can be done. This holiday season remember you can either reach for that extra helping of pumpkin pie, or you can reach for your skinny jeans and actually be able to button and zip them all the way up. The choice is yours!
