If your furry friend gained some extra weight, then it's the time to put him on a diet!

The long-term risks of pets' obesity are arthritis, heart and liver problems, diabetes. Although you enjoy sharing with your little dog some ice cream or a box of chocolate, it's better to do the best for his health, in order to enjoy his presence for a longer time.

Act like a family

It's quite frustrating that you should resist to his big puppy eyes, but it's even worse to see that the other members of the family give him food when you're not present (although they know that the pet presents risks of medical problems due to his extra weight).

You try to respect your plan and the others sabotage you. The most important is to understand and respect the decisions for the good of your pet.

Read the labels

Read on the label of the pet food what is the daily amount recommended and don't forget to go to the vet; he can suggest a less caloric dog food.

Split the meals

Spilt the daily amount of food recommended in small meals, in order for the pet to not feel the hunger. Thus, he will always have something in his tummy.

Throw the snacks

Don't spoil him anymore! The snacks with a high intake of calories are totally forbidden by the diet!

Consider the alternatives

Replace the snacks with some healthy ones: boiled carrots, which have been cut in small pieces or pumpkin. You can also give to your pet some special bones that contain nutrients and proteins.

Good article. :) LOL, It would probably be wise if I didn't split half of every meal that I eat with my sweet pup then. ;-)
