5 Tips for Workout Motivation

Jennifer Wright
Beginning a workout routine is a big step, but keeping on track with your workouts is an even bigger step. For a lot of people, they give up too soon because it just seems too hard.

Here are some of my motivational tips to make you want to keep going.

Before Pictures

This will be a hard thing to do at first, but take before pictures of yourself and put them where you workout so you can look at them when you want to stop. I put mine on my treadmill and when I want to stop before my goal distance for the day, I look at that picture and keep going.

Television

When you workout at home, watch television, but make sure it's something about weight loss. There are so many shows on with amazing weight loss stories and how hard work can pay off. Even infomercials are motivational. One show that works for me is MTV's "I Used to be Fat." Every single time I work out, no matter what time of day, I can find something motivational about weight loss on.

The Pants that don't fit

Sometimes it is a very motivational thing to use a pair of pants that you love, but don't fit anymore as a motivational tool.

Workout Clothes

Being a woman, one thing that works for me is getting a cute workout outfit. No matter what size you are, you will feel better if you treat yourself to something that feels good to wear. Wearing sweat pants that ride up can be one thing that forces you to stop in the middle of a workout as well.

Support Groups.

One thing I have found, probably the most important thing, is a support group for weight loss. Whether you form a small group of your own friends, create or join a support group on sites like Facebook, or join a larger online group like Spark People where they have support plus other things like recipes and tracking tools, a support group can be a vital part of continued weight loss.

In my experience, it helps to have somewhere to be accountable. The people in your support group will be there for you to push you when you need to be pushed, but also to congratulate you when you meet a goal.

Hopefully these tips will help you to keep going, to push your limits, and to pave the way to a healthier you.
