5 Tips for Writing an Effective Profile for Your Real Estate Website

As the old saying goes, "a first impression is a lasting impression." In a world of real estate agents on the web, with years of experience and a laundry list of fine credentials, an online "profile" may be the first impression agents give to potential clients, and could be the one piece of information that distinguishes the "selected" agent from all other real estate professionals on the web.

According to Anita Aspen, writer for LeadBoosterClub.com, "a professional profile...is a way to present your qualifications, experience and skill in such a way that can attract potential clients." Simply put, a profile is a short, biographical snapshot of you. To create an effective profile for your real estate website, blog, or any other online resource in which buyers can locate you, follow these simple tips.

1. Make it easy to read. On your profile page (or in the profile section of your page), the overall content, writing style, and page/section design all influence how easy your information is to read. The design can include details such as the layout, font, color, and use of line spacing. Ideally, your profile should be no longer than three short paragraphs. You can also use a bulleted list to highlight your key points (i.e. years experience, target clients/niche, and certifications).

2. State your credentials. While choosing a real estate agent is not a decision made solely on the agent's list of credentials, it is reassuring to potential clients to know that their agent is qualified to do the job. These qualifications may be proven through education, experience, awards, or testimonials. In your profile, list your accomplishments, experience in the field, certifications, and awards and recognitions received by you or your business, where applicable.

3. Include a professional picture. Some people absolutely love to put a name with a face. On your profile page, include a high-quality, professional photo of yourself so your clients can visualize themselves working with you.

4. Include some personal information. While it is probably a good idea to stay away from all things controversial or potentially embarrassing, include some nontraditional, "fun" information to make you seem more human. This is also a great way for people to better connect with you on other levels. General information about your family, hobbies, pets, or volunteer work are examples of the information you could include.

5. Keep your profile current. Nothing is worse for potential clients than viewing a website with stale information. As you gain more experience, more credentials, or more education, make sure you update your profile on your site. Even if nothing changes, it is a good idea to update the date your page was last revised (if your site keeps track of and displays these dates) so potential clients know that you are active on your web site.

All in all, the reader of your online profile is interested in finding the best agent to assist with his real estate transaction-with the "best" being defined as the agent who is most knowledgeable, easy to work with, and has proven that he or she is capable of getting the job done. Make sure you demonstrate these traits in your real estate professional profile.
