5 Top Comedy Movies

Comedy Movies that Keep You Laughing

Overboard. 1987. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are perfectly paired as opposites who end up attracted to each other. This is one of my top five comedy movies due to the constant laughs and romantic twist. Rich, overbearing Joanna Strayton suffers from amnesia after falling from her yacht. The carpenter, Dean Proffitt , whom she hired and then refused to pay, decides to claim her as his wife as revenge for her nonpayment. This movie is filled with frustration, laughter and life lessons as Joanna attempts to tame Dean and his four wild sons and create order in the unkempt home. The audience is kept in suspense throughout the movie waiting for the truth to come out about Joanna's true identity.

Fifty First Dates. 2004. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore as Henry and Lucy. Lucy's unusual memory loss disease creates the hilarious background for this comedy movie. When Henry falls for Lucy, he learns she has short memory loss and has absolutely no memory of him from the day before. Thus, he is forced to go on a first date every day. This movie made my list of top comedy movies due to its creative, unique story line. The audience is kept wondering how in the world Lucy and Henry could possibly make it as a couple. Definitely belongs in the top 5 comedy movies for all the laughs and unique story line.

Anger Management from 2003 is next on my list of 5 top comedy movies. Forcing a quiet, mild mannered, passive man into an anger management program with an aggressive therapist is a time bomb for exploding laughter. As Buddy (Jack Nicholson) leads Dave (Adam Sandler) through his anger management course, the movie is filled with hilarious, nerve racking events for Dave, and a totally unexpected ending.

Home Alone. 1999. Well deserving in the list of top comedy movies is this fast action packedcomedy starring Macaulay Culkin. Our family first saw this in the movies and we all laughed uncontrollably, as did most of the audience. This first Home Alone movie, I believe, was the best of the series, as the events were totally unexpected. The other Home Alone movies were also hilarious, but by the time they came out, the audience knew to expect Kevin (Culkin) to have some tricks up his sleeves to fight off the bad guys.

Mrs. Doubtfire. 1993. A wonderful family film starring Robin Williams and Sally Field. Comedy movies like this make us laugh as well as warm the heart. Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) disguises himself as Mrs. Doubtfire, a babysitter, in order to be spend more time with his children after he and his wife separate. The consequences are hilarious.
