5 Unique Dining Room Decoration Elements

Your dining room probably isn't used very much, but it's one of your home's focal point. I know that in my home, the dining room is among the more well decorated areas, as it houses fine china and an atmosphere for formal get-togethers and a nice room to show off. It's the first room you see when you walk in the door, so it has to be staged to impress.

When it comes to dining rooms, you might desire something different than traditional. Here are five unique dining room decoration elements.

Rustic Decoration Theme

Distressed woods, rich colors, and leather detailing can create a rustic look. This is perfect for a log cabin home, or a home in an area that is more, well, rustic and out in the great outdoors. This is unique because it's not what you would typically see in a dining room.

Benches

Instead of chairs at your dining room table, consider using benches. This is a non traditional element, and there are plenty of unique designs to choose from. This can be used in a traditional setting, or in a more modern setting. You can even paint your own wooden benches to fit your design theme.

Mirrored Table

On my nightstand, I have a mirrored tray housing a silver grooming set. I looked at the tray one day and thought to myself "this would make a beautiful table." Using a mirror as a table in a glam design theme would work very well. It's a unique, beautiful, and classy addition to a dining room.

Oversized mural

An oversized mural gives a conversation piece, pulls together the elements of a room, and more. Having this large type of element in your dining area gives you the opportunity to have muted and subdued furniture, and allows you to get away with less decor overall.

Unique Lighting

A unique lighting fixture in your dining room will help decorate your home. You don't have to stick with a crystal chandelier. Look for a large art deco fixture or something really unique. Make this the center of your room, and decorate around it. This will create a very one-of-a-kind feel that many homeowners desire.

Decorating a dining room doesn't have to be drab. With these tips, you can create the best dining room in your home.
