Here are 5 unique ideas to make this Valentine's Day special.

1. Create a romantic evening at home.

A lot of people like to go out for Valentine's Day, but what is wrong with creating a romantic evening at home? Make a great dinner, put on some nice music, light some candles, and voila! An instant memorable evening that won't cost you a fortune. The best part, you can completely create the mood that you want. If you don't want to cook, you can order in.

2. Have a romantic movie marathon with your best friends.

This is particularly a great way to celebrate if you are a single girl and know a lot of other single girls. It can be a riot! Simply invite your friends over and ask that they bring their favorite romantic movie. You can then order pizza and have ice cream for dessert! Beer and/or wine might be a nice addition too. You might be surprised; it may be a tradition!

3. Just throw a party!

Do you really need a better excuse to have a party? There is no need to keep it just to the adults or couples, although you might have other ideas. Why not invite everyone, including kids? Have everyone bring some munchies and supply the pop, beer, and wine. Add in some music, movies, games, and you'll have the making of a great party.

4. Take the whole family for a night out.

A lot of times parents tend to go out for a night out on the town alone on Valentine's Day. Why not make it a family night instead? Go out to a favorite restaurant and then take the kids to a family movie. People tend to forget this, but Valentine's Day is meant as a celebration for all types of love, not just romantic love. Why not show your kids just how much you love them? The night doesn't have to be hard on Mom and Dad. Just make sure that it ends fairly early in order that Mom and Dad can celebrate alone later.

5. Plan a mini-vacation.

Why not spend a whole weekend with the ones you love? There are a lot of great weekend getaways for both couples and families. For example, if you live in the Mid-Michigan area, you might want to spend a weekend in Frankenmuth. Zehnder's Splash Village Hotel and Water Park caters to both families and couples. There is also a lot to do in northern Michigan if you like snowmobiling, skiing, and the like.

The possibilities are truly endless, but the above 5 tips should help spark the imagination. A lot of people think that Valentine's Day is simply a Hallmark holiday. The thing is, it doesn't have to be. You don't have to turn to one of the tired clichés in order celebrate love. That is all that Valentine's Day should be - a celebration of all of the love in your life. That doesn't just include your significant other; it includes your family and friends as well. Whoever said that it has to be a celebration of just romantic love? Celebrate all of the great people in your life.
