5 Unique Video Game Celebrity Cameo Appearances

Tony Moreira

Video games have always had a close relationship with advertisers, Hollywood, licensors, personalities, and more. While these relationships create opportunities for integrating a likeness into a game, many times they are just odd. Here's a look at 5 unique video game cameo appearances.

Postal 2

In 2003 Running with Scissors released the highly controversial title, Postal 2. In the game, players must wander the city of "Paradise" while taking on the role of "The Postal Dude" (also known simply as "Dude") while setting out to accomplish mundane tasks. Among those tasks, head to the local mall to grab an autograph from none other than Different Strokes star, the late Gary Coleman. While his cameo is brief and the Dude confuses who he actually is in a cutscene, players are ultimately treated to a shootout with him when the mall is surrounded by the police who are seeking his arrest.

NBA Jam Tournament Edition (TE)

In 1993 Midway released the first in the series of NBA Jam titles. Like most sports games, NBA Jam included popular teams to choose from while shooting a game of hoops. While, cheat codes can be used to unlock special playable characters. Among them are both former President Bill Clinton (who was President at the time of the game's release) and former First Lady Hillary. Also to be found in the game, Al Gore, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

GTA IV

While most audiences will certainly recognize Ricky Gervais from the British version of the hit television series "The Office," he has had long running comedy career, including a brief live set in GTA IV. Players who haven't seen his comedy act, which includes obesity jokes and poking fun at the audience, can head to the Split Sides Comedy Club found on Jade Street in Liberty City.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2

It's difficult to find a movie based on a Marvel property that doesn't have an appearance by the one and only Marvel creator, writer, executive, and legend Stan Lee. His brief film appearances such as those in "Captain America: The First Avenger," "The Incredible Hulk," "Thor," "Spiderman," and "X-Men" are the norm. While his roles are usually simple, this time around in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, we get to see him working as Mayor Stan Lieber.

Fight Night: Round 3

Known as a game that pushed the envelope on product placement within a game, Fight Night: Round 3 had obvious ties with fast food giant Burger King. While the King himself has since been retired as the company's mascot, he still lives on within the sports game as a trainer.
