5 Unique Ways to Go Green for Spring

Alyssa Ast
Going green's the latest trend to preserve our Earths natural state and to reverse the damage that has already occurred. Going green's often easier said than done because no one wants to cause an upheaval in their life by making changes. Luckily, there are 5 unique ways you can go green without causing major disturbances in your life. With Spring just around the corner, what better time to get a fresh start and give back to the Earth than now.

All Natural Cleaners
Cleaning products aren't only harmful for the planet but our health as well. The harsh chemicals used in cleaning products can cause long term affects on our health and the health of our planet. A great way to go green for Spring is to throw out these nasty chemicals and use all natural cleaning products. You can make simple and natural cleaning products out of many ingredients that are already in your kitchen, such as vinegar and baking soda. These natural and home made products often work much better or just as well as the harmful chemicals purchased in stores. Use your old harsh chemical spray bottles that have been cleaned out well to place your new, home made cleaners in. This will recycle the spray bottles and save our landfills as well.

Eat Naturally
As easy as it may sound, choosing to eat organically is a great way to go green. Not only is eating fresh products healthy but it's a great way to save the planet as well. By growing your own garden, or even if you choose to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, you're saving the landfills from all the packaging products needed for most store bought items. What's even better, is the left over or rotten fruits and vegetables can be placed into a compost pile to be reused for fresh and healthy food.

A Breath of Fresh Air
With Spring in the air, take the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful sun to get out of your car and choose a greener method of transportation. When going short distances, why not walk? Walking instead of driving is great for your health and great for the environment. If you don't feel like walking, why not ride a bike, take a scooter, or roller blade? All these methods are better for your health and a green way to get around as well.

Get Rid of the Mail
Another way to go green for Spring is to eliminate your mail. No one likes junk mail, so save the planet by signing up for programs to eliminate the junk mail. When possible choose to pay bills over the phone or with automatic bill pay to save the paper from being made. Both of these things will keep the paper out of our house and out of the landfill. While it isn't a 100% way to save mail from coming to your house, every little bit of un-wasted paper helps.

Check Out the Thrift Stores
If you're in need of something new, whether it be a new couch or a plastic tub, before heading to the store check out garage sales and thrift stores. Avoid buying new products when ever possible because that will keep other trash from landing in the landfill. You can often find exactly what you need, in great condition, and at a great price at thrift shops, garage sales, and yard sales.
