5 Unique Wedding Style & Theme Ideas

Tonya Hillukka
As you begin planning your wedding, you will need to have a vision as to the style or theme you are going for. Some people are able to envision their perfect wedding and reception immediately, while others--like myself--remain undecided for a while. Are you looking for a fun, unique theme or style to tie everything together? There are hundreds of options available to you. These are just five of them.

Vintage

Do you wish you could visit a particular era of the past? From a Victorian style to the Roaring Twenties, you have numerous wedding theme options. For a Victorian wedding, decorate with parasols, wear lace gloves and exit as newlyweds in a horse-drawn carriage. The '20s consisted of feather boas, pearl necklaces and jazz music.

Rustic

Combine modern decor in a rustic setting for a truly unique wedding experience. Are you getting married or having your reception in a re-furbished barn? Add white strings of lights to the ceiling and decorate your tables with modern centerpieces--and add a little sparkle with silver and crystal. Casual elegance is a great term for this style.

Italian

You may not live in Italy (or some other country that you love), but if you and your future spouse enjoy traveling, this may be the perfect theme for your wedding. Wine glass decorations would be perfect an Italian wedding theme. Then take your honeymoon vacation in the country of Italy (or whichever country you choose for your wedding theme).

Buttons

Button bouquets are becoming more popular, and they can be beautiful. If you love the idea of carrying a button bouquet at your wedding, you might like to carry out this theme throughout the wedding and reception decor. You can incorporate them into various pieces: on your dress; on the ring bearer pillow and flower girl basket; in the table centerpieces; and so on.

Green

I'm not talking about the color. Consider a green theme, as in eco-friendly, for your wedding if you are an environmentally conscious type of person. Use recycled paper for your wedding invitations. Decorate with potted plants that can be planted outdoors or given to guests. Use natural elements and second-hand items as much as possible.

Whatever you choose, enjoy planning your wedding. Everything will eventually come together, no matter how confused and overwhelmed you may be right now.
