5 Wardrobe Pieces that Look Good on Any Woman

Universally Flattering Pieces of Clothing

Sometimes, you'll see a celebrity don an outfit that you know wouldn't look good on any average woman's figure. For a second you have a mild case of figure envy and wish you didn't inherit your mothers hips, wide shoulders, thick middle--fill in the blank. It is a rare occurrence to find clothing pieces that look great on everyone. It's like that lipstick shade that fits every skin tone: hard to find but not impossible! So whether you're petite, apple-shaped, pear shaped, athletic, hour glass or your figure looks more like a long eraser than any of the above, take heart. These five pieces look great on everyone.

1. The V-neck sweater

Something about that V-neck does wonders to every body. It elongates the neck, cinches the waist, and highlights the face. If you're top heavy, you can opt for a darker colored V-neck in thin material. Navy blue, dark brown and stone gray are alternatives to your every day black.

2. 3/4th sleeve anything

I don't understand why more designers don't figure this one out already. Of all the sleeve lengths, 3/4th sleeves are by far the most flattering cut for a sleeve. It's more flattering than even long sleeve because sometimes a long sleeve shirt can make a person look boxy when a person has their hands down, especially if the end of the sleeve hits the bottom of the shirt. Unlike regular T-shirt sleeves or cap sleeves, 3/4th sleeves don't cut a person off in the area of the arm that is the thickest. Instead, it cuts off right below the elbow. 3/4th sleeves on shirts, button down blouses, cardigans, and even dresses and blazers look great on anyone. They give coverage for those who don't want to go sleeveless, but they are more flattering than long sleeve shirts. (not to mention not as hot!)

3. Low-rise jean shorts that end at the knee and taper

My best friend has a pear shape, and she loves these types of shorts. I have an apple shape and I love these shorts as well. It must have something to do with the flattering line it creates because it is tapered at the knee. It enhances a woman's curves, and the low-rise jeans (but not too low) also are flattering for anyone with a little tummy pouch. It's definitely much more wearable than regular shorts.

4. Wide-leg low-rise trouser pants

There's nothing like wide-leg trouser pants to make a girl look ultra leggy. Add some heels and we'll give Cameron Diaz a run for her money. For pear shapes, it creates a straight line so that hips and bum aren't highlighted. For apple shapes, it fills out the bottom half of a person making the body look more proportional. And the trouser fit creates a seamless front that flattens out the tummy. Nothing in these pants has any chance of bulging out. Everything is kept under wraps! Hooray!

5. Tailored hip length blazer

Every woman should own at least one of these blazers. Seriously, maybe one in black, white, khaki, navy blue...This blazer does for the upper body what wide-leg low-rise trousers do for the lower body. Plus, it's shape is symmetrical in every way. You know what they say, symmetry is beauty. The key is to spend the money on getting a blazer tailored to fit your body's curves. It's a great wardrobe investment to have a tailor create darts on the back that really hug your body perfectly. It's also just as important that the blazer not be too short or too long. Too short and you'll appear boxy, too long and the torso looks unproportionally long next to your legs. You can wear this blazer with a pencil skirt, a flirty floral frock in summer, suit pants, even fabric shorts (hot pants)!
