Never Check Email At Home
You never want to check your email on your home computer. Any people that you may have emailed about shelter space available then your abusive husband might see it. Your husband might see replies to housing applications that you've filled out online. Remember that he could probably guess your password so make sure to change it to something else at a friends place. Don't check your email on the home computer after you changed your password since there are several things he could do to obtain the password.
Don't Use Your Printer At Home
Make sure to always go to the library to print things out. Make sure to always use a friends printer. Go to a Kinko's in order to have more privacy. The main reason why printers risky to use at home is some of them let you print out a copy of the last printed page. The other reason why you shouldn't use a printer at home is that you risk the abuser coming home in the middle of your papers printing. The printer will continue with the print job the next time it is turned on if it happens to get turned off in the middle of it.
Your Abusive Husband May Have Monitor Software Installed
You always want to have the upper hand and not your husband. There are certain monitor software out there that people frequently use for children on the Internet to obtain information. It monitors everything that happens on the computer. It logs all of the passwords and websites visited. It can run hidden in the background to the point that you can't manage to disable it without having to reformat the whole computer. Several spouses use this type of software to track the others activities online.
Never Use Your Home Computer
Home computers enables you to find out local women's shelter and other information to help you leave your abuser. It isn't worth taking the risk of getting caught so therefore that is why I say never use your home computer. Your abusive husband has no control over another persons computer so therefore it is safe to use your friends or library. It could save your life to not use your home computer since he will have no way to know that you are going to leave him. Just to make it look good on your home computer then start to look at Christmas gifts or something so that he doesn't get suspicious of your behavior.
Be Safe When You Fill Out Housing Applications
Filling out housing applications online requires you to submit a ton of information to them. Make sure to tell them your situation. Use a friends post office box unless you have enough money stored away to get one of your own. Explain to them that any information sent to you needs to be sent to the post office box or email. Make sure to give them a friends telephone number or a friends number on the housing waiting list.
Another option is you can get a brand new cellphone to hide at a friends house for people to leave messages regarding housing and other things. Do not let anyone in your family know the new cellphone number that you have. Your abusive husband will attempt to find you through various methods. Don't even send your family a Christmas card when you leave your abusive husband since the post office puts a mark on it that reveals where it was mailed from. Obtain a library card to use the computer at the lab.
