5 Ways to Beat the Hot Weather at Walt Disney World

How to Stay Cool in the Hot Weather This Summer

Amanda M. Rose
I am a HUGE fan of hot, sticky, humid weather. I have always sworn that I was suppose to be born somewhere along the equator, and not in the 'Great White North'. I will admit (just this one time) that even I can become quite cranky and irritable when walking around Walt Disney World, wading through the people that overpopulate the Magic Kingdom and the other three parks, from mid June, right through to mid September, when the hot weather is at its worse. Therefore, when I am planning my trips to Walt Disney World, I always take the time to prepare for the hot weather with a few different ideas for keeping cool, so that I'm not wasting my precious money on sitting in a hotel room with a cranky two year old with heat stroke.

1. Every day, no matter what time of year it is that we are enjoying a day at Walt Disney World, no matter what the weather is, we head back to the resort at lunch time where we grab a small lunch, my son naps, I have a nice cool shower and we go for a quick dip in the pool. We are able to get back to the Disney Parks in the early evening, and we have less crowds to fight with, as everyone has become cranky due to the hot weather. By this time the weather has slightly cooled, we are well rested and ready to go!

2. There are two different Walt Disney World water parks, Disney'sTyphoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach. If you have Magic Your Way and More pass, it would be a wise idea to spend the morning or the early evening at one of these parks to help stay cooled. But be aware, when the weather is hot and kids are out of school, these two parks hit capacity by mid morning. So get there early or get there head their after your afternoon cat nap. Don't head here at lunch and expect to get it.

3. During our first trip to Walt Disney World, I noticed all these people walking around with little mini mister fans, people even had them attached to the strollers to help keep the kids cool. These misting fans had to have been invented after a mother at Disney's Animal Kingdom (which seems to have a whole different temperature of its own) took a walk with her little ones on the Maharajah Trail. Every time I take a walk on this trail, I have passed a least half a dozen families where the child is having a complete melt down because it is just too darn hot, and in reality, it really is that hot no matter what the weather is. So pick up one of these misting fans! You can find them at Walmart (Walt Disney World also sells them) for a couple dollars, and they definitely do the trick in hot weather.

4. My fourth tip, is a little trick that I learned while working in hot weather in landscaping. Wet a face cloth the night before and place it in a Ziploc bag and freeze it. In the morning just pack it in your bag for the day at the Walt Disney World parks, and if you start getting hot, take the towel out and place it on the back of your neck for a few minutes. It is not exactly the most fashionable look, but if you find a bench at Walt Disney World, sit down and place it on your neck for 5-10 minutes, it should lower your body temperature and help you feel better.

5. Lastly, WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER!!! Even if you are a caffeine fiend and crave soda throughout the day, on days were the weather is hot, it is best to skip it all together and make sure that you are getting enough water to keep your body hydrated. Alot of people that are heading to the Walt Disney Resorts are aware that the weather is hot and have water delivered to their resorts through gardengrocer.com or costco.com. Other people simply drink tap water from the counter service restaurants at Walt Disney World, which is completely free. Water should be your best friend when the weather is hot to help you beat the heat.
