5 Ways to Celebrate Administrative Professionals Day

Administrative Professionals Day - the Wednesday of the Last Full Week in April

Administrative professionals work behind the scenes to keep businesses running smoothly. Show your appreciation for the administrative professionals in your company by celebrating Administrative Professionals Day with your administrative assistant, secretary, and other office support staff.

Take Your Administrative Professional Out to Lunch on Administrative Professionals Day

Ask your administrative professional's coworkers for restaurant ideas. If you're sneaky, you can casually ask your administrative professional directly. Tell them you are thinking about taking a client out to lunch and would like to know if they have any favorites restaurants they could suggest.

On Administrative Professionals Day, come into the office at lunch time and make a big deal about taking your administrative professional out to lunch. Administrative professionals often do not receive many pats on the back, so this fanfare will really be appreciated.

Give Your Administrative Professional a Gift Certificate on Administrative Professionals Day

Administrative professionals work hard, but don't always get paid what they're contribution to the company is worth. Why not supplement your administrative professional's income a little by presenting them with a gift certificate?

You can purchase an inexpensive Administrative Professionals Day greeting card and pass it around the office so everyone can sign it. Then, place the gift card into the card. Present the card to your administrative professional in front of the entire office so they know everyone appreciates their efforts.

Let Your Administrative Professional Work a Half Day on Administrative Professionals Day

Give your administrative professional some time off. The company won't be out too much money by paying them for only a half day, but the value to your administrative professional will be great.

Any administrative professional would enjoy a little paid time off. They can go and do something for themselves like see a movie or spend some extra time with their children.

Get Your Administrative Professional a Gift for Their Desk on Administrative Professionals Day

A gift that will sit on your administrative professional's desk all year is a great idea. Every time your administrative professional sees this gift, they will remember that all of their hard work is valued by you and the company.

Great gifts for administrative professionals could be a frame for pictures of their family, a beautiful plant, or a candy dish filled with goodies. Make sure the gift is something fun or ornamental instead of something they would use just for work.

Give a Short Speech on Administrative Professionals Day

Everyone likes to be recognized and appreciated. Take a few minutes to tell everyone in your office why you appreciate all the hard work done by your administrative professional. Cite specific instances that you noticed your administrative professional doing exceptional work.

This special recognition will not only please your administrative professional, but it will motivate them to keep up the good work and work even harder. Appreciation and recognition go a long way towards motivating employees.

Concluding Administrative Professionals Day

No matter how you celebrate Administrative Professionals Day, make sure you thank your administrative professional as they leave the office. A sincere "thank you" is often all your administrative professional is looking for.

Hey, no problem, Patricia. That's part of why I wrote this. I've also been in this position. In some ways, I still am. It is a really thankless job even though the business can't operate without administrative professionals. I also feel pretty strongly that the level of respect needs to increase big time. APD is just a step in the right direction (if you do it right). It should be about showing respect and appreciation, not just about a free lunch.

This started out as "Secretary's Day," years ago, and I hated it then! I once told a new employer that I would prefer not to be taken out to lunch, I'd rather have the money he'd spend! From then on, I got a $50 check every "AA" day. Worked for me! Not to slam your piece, but I have such strong feelings against this day. I think it's demeaning. All year they pay you and treat you like crap, and then they want to have lunch with you! No thanks! But, nicely written. :)
