5 Ways to Celebrate American Red Cross Month

Stephanie Modkins
March is American Red Cross Month. It's a time in which the achievements of this public agent are to be celebrated by everyone. So how can you participate?

Offer up your "fair" share at work.
Many companies give their employees the opportunity to assign a portion of their pay check to a charity fund. Opt to choose the American Red Cross. Then give your "fair" share. Work with your company to determine what this amount is. Understand that the money you give will open doors of safety as well as improve the quality of life for a deserving family.

Give away your excess goods.
Americans are notorious for accumulating excess. You can see it by checking out anyone's hall or bedroom closet. It's usually stuffed to the brim with goods and clothing. Get rid of some of that stuff by donating it to the American Red Cross. A person who's lost everything in a natural disaster or fire will appreciate your gift.

Advocate a new law.
Have you ever heard of the bill H.R.4116? This bill is the Veterans Health Care Stamp Act of 2007 which, if passed, will give the American public an option of buying a first-class stamp that will send proceeds to veteran programs. These programs are ones designed to increase the financial strength of veterans by offering funds for things like health care. On their website, the American Red Cross is urging the American public to support this bill along with others. It's their way of extending another helping hand to people in need to people across the country. So get involved! Write your senator and vote. Your voice does count and can help make America a better place to live.

Volunteer at your local American Red Cross.
Are you bored and looking for a way to spend your time? Before you start a new hobby, think about the good you could do by volunteering at your local American Red Cross. It will increase your citizen-power because you'll be "hands-on" in assisting people in your local area. Also, it'll add excitement to your life because of the variety of things you'll be able to do. To find a local American Red Cross in your area, go to their website at www.redcross.org. They will appreciate your time and support.

Tell a friend.
Let your friends know about the great things that the American Red Cross does for the public. Encourage them to get involved by donating blood, funds or food. The more people who know and understand what the American Red Cross means to the sick, disenfranchised and disaster-stricken, the more apt they are to help.

For more information about the American Red Cross, visit their website at www.redcross.org. It'll give you additional information on how to get involved with them and how they serve the public.
