5 Ways to Eat Avocados

Britt Baker
Avocados are a delicious, creamy fruit that can be prepared in a number of healthy, versatile ways. Avocados are rich in a number of nutrients including vitamin K, dietary fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin C, and copper, and contain heart healthy oleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fat. Although most people may be familiar with avocados from their preparation in guacamole, there are also many other, scrumptious ways to eat avocados. So, here are 5 awesome ways to eat avocados:

1. Simply Seasoned

After removing the seed and skin of an avocado, you can easily season the halves or slices. Some ways you can season avocados are with freshly ground sea salt and peppercorns, with or without lemon juice, lemon juice by itself, maple syrup, agave nectar and lime, or simply agave nectar. These variety of ways to eat avocados are all simple to prepare. All you have to do is, choose your seasoning or seasonings of choice and apply it to the avocado halves or slices to taste.

2. Salads

Another great way to eat avocados is to prepare them in a salad. Avocados, with their mild, creamy taste and texture, easily compliment many vegetables. So, avocados are a great way to add extra nutrients to a bright, colorful salad filled with ingredients such as tomatoes, bell peppers, and red onions, or even less thought of ingredients such as papaya, strawberries, apples, pecans, and cashews.

3. Sandwiches, Wraps, and Burritos

Avocados are a wonderful addition to sandwiches, wraps, and burritos. The creamy texture of avocados bind easily to other ingredients, and as previously mentioned, compliment many vegetables, making them an awesome addition to burritos, wraps, and sandwiches.

4. Guacamole and Dips

Guacamole is one of the best known ways to eat avocadoes, but there are other dips you can make with avocados. Some ideas are a creamy avocado salsa dip, an avocado fruit dip (with fruits such as papaya or pineapple), a jalapeno avocado dip, or a roasted red pepper avocado dip. The options for avocado dips are endless!

5. Butter

Avocados, with their creamy texture, work great as a butter-like spread. Simply mash up some avocado to your desired consistency, and spread the avocado butter onto toast. If you wish, you can first drizzle a bit of extra virgin olive oil on the toast, and you can also add simple spices to the avocado butter, too, such as freshly ground sea salt and black peppercorns.

All of these 5 ways to eat avocados are easy to prepare and add some excellent nutrients to your meals, as well. So, get creative, and explore the many ways to eat avocados!
