5 Ways to Exercise when You Think You Have No Time

Katherine Huether
Think you don't have time for exercise? Think again. Even the busiest person can find time in the day to exercise. The key is to exercise in smaller chunks of time.

It is hard finding thirty minutes to an hour each day to exercise when you try to block out the time. It is much easier exercising in two to ten minute spurts throughout the day. In fact, exercising throughout the day is a great way to keep your metabolism revving.

Find Reasons to Walk

Walking is one of the simplest exercises there is. And, you don't need to reserve large chunks of time. Wearing a pedometer is one of the easiest ways to make sure you are getting enough physical activity. Shoot for 10,000 steps each day.

If you go out of your way to walk a few extra steps it can really add up. Park further away. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Get up from your desk and walk around the office. At the end of the day, you may find that you really wracked up the steps.

Do Isometric Exercises

Isometric exercises are a good way to get toned and in shape from where you are sitting or standing. They are performed by clenching a muscle group for a few seconds then releasing. You can perform as many repetitions as you like.

Do isometric exercises while in the car, waiting in line, sitting at your desk, or even watching television. Before long, you will notice a difference.

Stretch throughout the Day

Stretching is important. It keeps your body flexible and prevents injury. Find opportunities to stretch throughout the day. Spend a few extra minutes in bed each morning to stretch. Do the same at night. It also keeps your muscles looking elongated and sleek.

Make it Portable

Exercise bands are one of the most portable ways to do a strength routine. The bands can easily fold up and fit in your purse or briefcase. This is great to take to work and even on a trip.

To find ideas for exercises to do with the bands you can look online or in magazines. Some manufacturers include a few exercises in an instruction booklet when you buy the bands as a set. Try to do the exercises as often as possible.

Stick to the Standards

Sit-ups, crunches, and other strength exercises that do not require equipment can be done anywhere. When you have a free minute, do a few pushups, sit-ups, or other exercises. If you aim to do ten or twenty one minute sessions throughout the day, you will hardly notice that you completed that much exercise.
