5 Ways to Find Work as a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer Online
Use the Internet to Find a Job as a Trainer or Fitness Instructor
Are you looking to get hired as a fitness instructor at a gym, fitness center, corporate wellness program, studio, school or other facility? Here are 10 places to find employment openings online in the fitness industry.
Craigslist
Still one of the best ways to find local jobs, Craiglist.org is great for fitness professionals.
Look under the "salon/spa/fitness" category to find current openings. You may also want to browse under "gigs" for one-time and limited-time opportunities such as fundraisers, workshops and camps.
Upload your resume to the "resume" section and/or place an ad in the "services" section in case anyone is browsing for a personal trainer or fitness instructor to come to their location.
If you offer classes or special events, place a listing in the "community" section under events or classes. These listings are good for 14 days, so repost whenever you offer new events.
Would you be willing to volunteer to teach, coach or train? Browse through the "volunteer" section to find local opportunities. This can be a great way to get your name out in your community.
If you find yourself visiting Craigslist frequently and performing the same searches, why not set up an RSS feed in your Reader. Simply perform your search on Craigslist and then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You'll see an RSS box. Copy that URL and paste it into your reader where you'll be able to subscribe and get search results automatically delivered to you!
Twitter
There are many ways to search for jobs on Twitter. If you're specifically looking for a personal trainer or fitness job, you can follow these Twitter accounts and you'll see job opportunities pop up in your feed whenever they're available:
- lydsterj2w
- GetHeaEducaJobs
- FitnessJobsUSA
- eBC_Jobs
- theHealthjob
- GetHeaEducaJobs
You can also search for local businesses and follow them to see if anything turns up.
Indeed
Indeed.com is a great job resource site as they take listings from many of the other sites and put them all in one place. You can also sign-up for email alerts and they'll send you new opportunities in your area whenever a fitness job comes up.
Facebook
While there isn't a place on Facebook where jobs are placed specifically, you can follow local businesses, gyms and fitness centers by searching to see if they have a Business Page and then "liking" it. That way you can stay on top of current news and if they post a job opp, you'll see it.
You can also create your own Facebook Page for your Personal Training business. Include a section on the page (maybe as a note) that has your resume and hiring availability.
Placing a Facebook Ad that targets local Facebook users would be another way to reach out to folks in your area looking for a personal trainer. You can place the ad and direct them to your Facebook Business Page where they can learn more about hiring you. Ads on Facebook are extremely targeted, work well and are very affordable.
Betterfly and Thumbtack
These two sites allow you to create online listings of your services, and are both specific to the fitness industry. While they don't list job openings, it is a way to get your resume and services out there for anyone local to find you!
And finally, make sure you have your resume and profiles all set up before applying for jobs. If you have a blog or website, upload your resume there and you can link to it from anywhere. If you need help with creating a resume, there are some sample resumes for personal trainers and fitness instructors online.
