5 Ways to Have Fun with Your Grandchildren

The grandchildren are coming to spend the day with you. How are you going to entertain them and enjoy their company? So many kids today are bogged down by electronic devices and it is so easy to overlook the joys this world has to offer. No matter where you live, you can spend a day with your grandchildren and you will have fun doing it.

Spend a Day with Your Grandchildren on a Scavenger Hunt:

A scavenger hunt can be great fun for grandparents and grandkids. There are several ways to go about it. Grandparents can set up the scavenger hunt before the grandkids arrive, or grandparents can also get into the spirit of the hunt. Make a list of common items in a local park. The list can be things like an Oak leaf, or pine needles, a black ant or bluebird. Have fun with your grandchildren as you cross things off your scavenger hunt list.

Spend a Day with Your Grandchildren by Gardening:

With all the hustle and bustle of today's lifestyle, something as simple as working in the garden together can bring you and your grandchildren closer together. Depending on the season, you can plant something, or harvest something from a farmer's field to take home and prepare for supper. You can also help out Mother Nature by planting a tree with your grandchild. Just think how the love you share with your grandchildren can grow stronger and be represented by a tall tree you planted together as a twig.

Spend a Day with Your Grandchildren by Volunteering:

There are programs that focus on different things, such as pets, nursing homes, or helping out with a homeless shelter. Any of these programs can be beneficial to a high school student's resume when they are attempting to get into college. By joining your grandchild for a day of volunteering, you can both enjoy the day together as well as helping to make this world a better place. If nothing else, bake a batch of cookies together and take them to a frail neighbor. Perhaps you would rather help your grandson clean up a neighbor's yard. There are numerous opportunities around if you just take a moment to think about it and share the joy of giving with your grandchildren.

Spend a Day with Your Grandchildren Retracing Footsteps:

Select a few pictures of your kids in different locations in an area you will be. Spend the day with your grandchildren trying to locate the exact place your child stood then snap a picture of your grandchild standing where her parent stood in the same place so long ago.

Spend a Day with Your Grandchildren and Enjoy Music:

Grandparents and grandkids will often have very different ideas about what constitutes music. Spend a day discovering each other's interest in music. Each generation listens to a song with the other generation, then work to bridge the generation gap by singing or dancing along with the songs. If you can't find anything you can agree on, you can always switch to singing Christmas Carols or other songs for fun.

With everything about electronics today, it is easy to lose track of the real world. Spend the day with your grandchildren and enjoy quality time without being put off by high prices or crowds.
