1. Eat more locally grown, organic fruits and veggies. More locally grown and organic vegetables and fruits are available during the summer months in most areas, and so you shouldn't miss out on this opportunity to eat healthier and eat foods that are more eco-friendly. This is one of the best ways to have a green summer, and easy, too!
2. Plant some flowers. Planting flowers is a great way to have a green summer and to beautify your surroundings, as well. If you have a yard, plant a small (or large!) garden outside. Be sure to use organic soil and seeds to make your garden even greener, too! If you don't have a yard, you can plant some organic flower seeds in window planters or in pots that you place in your windows.
3. Plant your own fruits and veggies. To go even greener this summer, plant your own organic fruits and veggies. If you don't have your own yard to plant them in, consider planting them in a friend or family member's yard in exchange for some of the fresh fruits and vegetables. This method is even cheaper than buying locally grown, organic fruits and veggies, and it gets you outside to enjoy the beautiful summer days more, too!
4. Have a green picnic (or several!). The summer months are perfect picnicking months, and an awesome way to have a green summer is to have a green picnic! To green your picnic, bring those organic fruits and veggies you grew or purchased, along with other organic picnic foods, like fresh whole grain breads and organic cheeses and spreads. Bring reusable dinnerware and utensils, too, so you lessen the trash, as well.
5. Walk or ride your bicycle. Instead of polluting the air by using an automobile for transportation, take a walk or ride your bicycle whenever possible. This is an awesome way to have a green summer since it is eco-friendly, cheaper, and helps you stay in shape. By walking or riding your bike, you're helping both yourself and the environment, too.
All of these ways to have a green summer are easy and healthier, too, so be sure to take advantage of these opportunities to be more eco-friendly in the warmer months of the year!
