5 Ways Human Resources Detects Deception Before the First Interview Begins

Michelle Knudson
Human Resources knows more than what you can even dream about you. You may be surprised at how much they can acquire about you. Here are five things that human resources won't reveal to you to detect deception.

We already did the background check

We can spot your lies a mile away. We already know everything about you. We just like to test your honesty. Honesty is the most important thing to make sure that you won't steal from the company. We ask you questions about your prior history to see how honest you are. It supplies us with former addresses along with a bit of job history.

You can't fool us about prior crime convictions

We already ran a criminal background check on everyone before the interviews started. We ask you if you have any problems in your criminal history. If you reply no when the answer is really yes then we will deny you the job automatically due to false statements. False statements make you seem like a person that is not honest.

We pulled your credit report

Your credit report gives an insight into your life. We know whether you pay your bills on time or not. We might be a little wary that you are going to steal from the company when you have bad credit. Bad credit means that some people are desperate for money due to not being able to manage finances properly. Banks will not hire someone at a bank that has poor credit due to being around a large amount of cash.

We know the truth about your education

You can't fool us when we suspect that you lied about your education. We have seen it all. People have lied about degrees that were never obtained. People have lied about getting a GED or diploma.

You can't cover up gaps in employment without a red flag going up

Several people try to blame gaps in employment on medical issues. You can tell us all the stories in the world about your sick mother or you were sick for a long time. We won't believe you unless you have actual proof that it was really true. Gaps in employment gives a bad impression that you are kinda lazy.

Several people in interviews will be asked to show off their skills. They do these type of tests to call you out on stuff that you told them that isn't true. They want to show you that you are not fooling anyone. A individual that can't even do the basic entry level job skill obviously shows that you lied to them.

Yes, I did do a lot of this stuff before the applicant came in for an interview. It's part of the game.
