Are they "the one"?
This is the biggest question that plagues the dating world. How do you know that this person you're dating could be the one true everlasting love?
They accept you and your friends
You and your friends are a package deal. Your friends have been with you for a lot longer than this person who has just shown up on the scene. Your friends have proven themselves time and time again, and they have your trust.
A new person coming into a group needs to accept the whole group. Your friends represent all of the bits and pieces of you, your travels, and your life. If this new person doesn't accept these people in your life - he obviously doesn't accept the person you really are.
Allows you time for yourself.
We all have been given a large box of crazy from our parents, past relationships, and past friends. In order to make that box of crazy go away you must unpack it and let it go. Thousands of books have been written about how to do this, so I'm not going to go through that here. However, you need some alone time to do all of this.
You also need alone time to think, read, or do an hobby you enjoy. A lot of people just simply need some time to be by themselves. You need to be able to say to that special person that you need this time, and that person has to say: No Problem. If they don't - there's a problem.
Interested in Marriage some time in the future
You can interpret the term marriage for yourself. It's whatever you're definition of marriage is.
However, there are people out there that do not want to get married. They don't want to be tied down. They don't want to stop dating. They don't want to accept that this is the "way it is". These are actual quotes I've heard people say.
You need to ask!
If this is the person you're dating, and you want there to be more - get out now! Do these people change? Maybe. But there's no reason you have to go through this emotional roller coaster. Will they change, won't they change...by the time you know for sure, and you could have had the life of your dreams. Bottom line - if they don't want the level of commitment that you require, stop wasting your time.
Does things for you out of the blue
There's nothing like suddenly getting something for the specific purpose of showing how much they are in love with you. You are a special person and you deserve little gifts just because. These "just because" gifts could be anything - a note on your car, a scone when you're on your lunch break, a flower, a special rock, or just them at an unexpected time.
These aren't just gifts, these are gifts that show you that they have been thinking about you when you weren't with them. These are gifts of true love. If your special person doesn't do this, hints, suggestions, or even asking for it - just won't be the same.
Accepts your financial situation or lack there of.
The biggest thing that couples fight about is.....Money!! One person of the relationship has one idea of the way the money should be kept. The other person has a completely other idea. Unless one person is willing to relinquish all money matters to one person (which I would never ever do...by the way) , there has to be a lot of compromises. If these compromises don't happen, no matter how good anything is, there is an inevitable crash in the future.
A miser can not be with a spendor. A budget strict person can not be with a fly by the seat of their pants person. If you don't care what happens with your money and your budget, then you can't spend eternity with someone who is budget conscious.
If one side doesn't accept their spending habits, the relationship is doom to failure or constant struggle. This is no way to live.
