5 Ways to Make Money Online with Your Poetry

Do you write poetry? Have you ever wished you could make some money from your poetry, yet you're not sure how, or even where to start? There are many good poets out there who are frustrated about how to get their work out in front of the public where it can be appreciated by others, and be compensated for their effort and time as well. Here are five ways you can make some extra money from your poetry.

1. Xomba

Xomba.com is a website where you can publish content and get paid for it. You can publish most types of content, including poetry, as long as it is at least 150 words long. If you write shorter work, that's still ok. Just include a forward of some type, perhaps describing how the poem came to you, or what it's meaning is for you. The way you make money is through Google Adsense. First set up an Adsense account, and then add your account number to Xomba, and you will be paid a fifty percent share on all ad revenue generated from your content pages.

2. Self Publishing

There are free places online where you can self-publish your poetry. Print on demand sites like Lulu.com will publish your poetry book for free, and print up copies as they are sold. In exchange they get a percentage of the profits, and you get a few dollars for each book you sell. Make sure you research any print on demand sites for quality and user/buyer satisfaction, as well as profitability.

3.Gather

Gather.com is another revenue sharing site where you can make money from the content you produce. They pay through PayPal (or even gift cards if you prefer). It's hard to tell exactly how you get points(which you then exchange for a PayPal payment) on the site though, so tracking statistics is nearly impossible. But one benefit is that there are many poetry authors on the site, and it's a friendlier atmosphere for gaining fans and getting noticed by other people than other sites I've seen.

4. Blogging

You can start a blog, and publish your poetry that way. You can make money through Adsense or other paid advertising. You have more control this way, especially if you have your own website, but a blog can take a long time to get going, and get noticed.

5. Associated Content

Associatedcontent.com is another site where you can publish poetry and make money. You get paid up to $2 per thousand page views. Most categories on Associated Content have a word count minimum, but poetry does not.

Good article. I'm going to blog route myself -- nine months in and I'm finally starting to make a bit of profit off it. It's a slow road, but I think it's the one with the most potential for growth.
