5 Ways to Motivate Yourself

Achieving Goals is Tough Work, Keep Yourself from Burning Out by Staying Motivated

Michael Holt
Every time someone is trying to lose weight and get healthy bites into a McDonalds Double Cheeseburger they know that they are not eating healthy; despite the fact it was their new year's resolution. So why would somebody go against what they themselves was decided was important for them. Discipline. A lack of discipline on their part. You have to motivate yourself to have the discipline to be able to sacrifice the little things in your life that are frivolous or hinder your ability to achieve success in what you want.

1. Convince yourself it is what you want. If you have something due a certain day, you convince yourself it is of the utmost importance that the project is done before the due date. Sound's simple, but it not always is.

2. Hang Inspirational quotes or pictures on your walls. Surround yourself with things that inspire and motivate you to try hard and achieve.
Some of my favorites are:
"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up" by Vince Lombardi,

"The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task" by Vince Lombardi

"If you'll not settle for anything less then your best, you'll be amazed what you can accomplish in your lives" by Vince Lombardi,

and "Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance" by my best friends dad, Mr. Fischer.

3. Set your alarm to something that invigorates you, something lively that with get you excited. I know some people who use alarms like the Rocky song; I use "Loser Yourself" by Eminem because it reminds me of psyching up before football games. Whatever speaks to you, it doesn't have to be athletic in nature.

4. Write signs& notes intended for you to tell yourself something. I had a large markerboard sitting around that I had gotten at officemax over a year ago. I wrote "GET OUT OF BED, Go big! Don't Go Home" on it, and I have to admit that when I hear my alarm and roll over to see this sign to myself I get out of bed and start getting ready for the day.

5. Get an MP3 player. Since I've gotten an MP3 player the long cold walks to class this winter became a lot less depressing. Instead they were fun and lively. I would suggest that anyone who rides a bike often, or walks often or goes to the gym on occasion to get an MP3 player, its like having your favorite musicians following you around all day cheering you on for trying so hard to get goals accomplished.
